Even if we win we still have relegation form.

A few wins from next five games will alter that view, but let’s be realistic that should we beat Newcastle it still doesn’t change our long term form.

That's what it makes it even more important that we get the win <ok>

I agree. I’m just pointing out we still have relegation form, even if we win.

Don’t get me wrong, we gotta start somewhere. Just hope it’s here.

I have feeling he is going after the Newcastle whatever. Maybe the Mirror was right about a manager getting sacked after playing ‘em...

Looked back at my guess....points from 3 games to get us 5 or 7 points. Beat Newcastle and we have my lowest guess of 5.....though I really thought we'd get 7. :(

After 10 games last season we had 3 wins in the league and 13 points. After 9 this season we have 1 win and 6 points.

All well and good thinking a few wins will carry us out of danger, yeah, but we don’t win games so pretty pointless thinking.

I totally agree - whether this is considered knee jerk or not, if we fail to beat Newcastle I seriously think we need a change.

There are those, and I understand why, that suggest we shouldn't consider last seasons form, and whilst i can see the merits of that position, the fact is form is relevant in that we are in the long term habit of not winning games.

This form of ours stretches back to early 2017 under Puel.

Keeping Hughes much further into Nov makes no sense to me at all if we don't win 3/5 next games. Taking one game at a time, starting tomorrow, if we fail he should go. One win in ten, with 6/7 points would say it all.

That said, I have a ticket for me and the boy tomorrow, and I can't recall the last game I saw us win live <yikes>

I was thinking back at the first 10 games last season. My Memory may be bad, but:

    Swansea - 0-0 battered them but couldn’t hit a cow’s arse. 20 + chances?? Played well.

West Ham - 3-2, 3 goals, but nearly bottled it. Played ok first half.

Huddersfield - 0-0 didn’t create much but nearly nicked it. Huddersfield on a crest of a wave of enthusiasm if I recall. Played ok

Watford - lost 2-0 at home and we looked clueless, creating nothing; they were looking quality then. Played poorly.

Palace away - won 1-0. Some bloke called Forster made a couple of great saves. Palace on a horrible run. Played ok

Man Utd at home - lost 0-1. Played very well. Jose stepped on the pitch to stop us.

Stoke away. Lost 1-2. Not very good but got back into it late, before conceding the usual Crouch goal.

Newcastle at home - 2-2. Created chances, conceded chances. Played ok

WBA - won 1-0. Odd game. Frustrating. Had chances to be three or four up at half time. Late solo goal to win it. Better game than people reported. First half particularly

Brighton 1-1. Started well, then started the backtracking. Frustrating

To be honest, not much different to this season but more points. We stared to fluff games up late, but still had good performances away to Chelsea, city, United in that first half of the season.

Worrying times for me, no matter what the outcome today. However, even if we changed the coaching staff, I worry too much about the Board’s ability to make the right decisions.

Trouble is...or it seems to me.....if we do score a goal.......we seem to feel we have to defend it all the time. Instead of playing the way we had up to the point of scoring. The number of games we have lost or drawn in the last 20 minutes from a healthy winning position is staggering. This smacks of either over confidence....... or fear in my book. Not sure which but giving up two goal leads and losing is enough to sap anyone’s confidence. Sparky doesn’t appear to learn the lesson either by bringing on defenders in the last 20 or so as we don’t seem to be able to do it. I think he definitely needs a better strategy.
Edit...do you think it might be a good idea for the owner to get Cortes back?

Sadly this is oh so true. The board really have lost the plot in my view since the new owner has taken over.....and maybe a tad before that.

He has to give up zonal marking at set pieces. It simply doesn’t work with the players we have.

And as for Cortese, with the current owner it just isn’t feasible, about as likely as getting Markus back.
