They, they, they, they, they, they? Are you talking about West Ham, Reading or both? I think you, and others, are just over complicating things. And getting the wrong figure for that matter. 21 points left to play for. We're 6 points clear of West Ham. Clearly therefore, yes, a maximum of 15 points from us is required to make certain that we finish above them (assuming a huge turn around in GD doesn't occur). But for West Ham to get the full 21, they must beat Reading. That mean's Reading could only get 18 points. And we're 5 points clear of them. And thus 13 points would be enough for us. If West Ham beat Reading, we will need 13 points to finish above Reading. If West Ham and Reading draw, we will need 13 points to finish above West Ham. If Reading beat West Ham, we will need 12 points to finish above West Ham. (Again, this is assuming a huge turnover around in GD doesn't occur)
I don't think it will need any of these kind of numbers from the remaining games and looking at the fixtures. 10 points promotion 15 champions. But what do I know! F all
Exactly! WHU & R draw both drop 2 points 15-2 =13 WHU win, then Reading drop 3 (but the magic number for them is 16), so we need 13 (16-3) Reading win, then WHU drop 3, we need 12 (15-3). Oh sod it. Win 4 we're up as there is no way WHU and Reading will win all the other games! Control the controllables.....!
We've guaranteed staying in this league. We obviously feel comfortable in it, so why leave? I'm hoping Nigel will plan things so that we finish up strongly in seventh position. Thus avoiding all the hysteria and stress of competing under unfair and cruel conditions in the EPL. Ideally I would like us to be in League 1 or 2, where you get nice days out without too much crap, but if we have to be in the Championship for a year or two, so be it.
The season will be over by the time I get my head around all of these possible permutations. We must follow Nigel's advice. Today we go out to win. We worry about what we do not what others do. What other's do is outside of our control. We can determine our own fate by focusing on doing what we need to do to the best of our ability. A bottle of wine and a glass is already beside my favourite armchair in front of the television and a bottle of champagne is already cooling in the fridge. All I have to do is keep myself occupied between now and when the match starts.
Champers ready in my fridge for when we are over the line, but I am thinking about maybe a London Pride this early evening.
The only 15 I am aware of is our current goal difference so lets hope we can get 15 points to go with it. I love the fact that even if we lost two and West Ham won two we would still be ahead on goal difference. COYS!
Can I just clarify one thing please? How many points do we need to get to stay ahead of Fran's printer? And does this vary according to the OS in use?
Don't worry about the printer, it has been relegated....to the bedroom. I have completely broken it's spirit...just printed a page without a murmur.
In terms of points required to get promotion after today, the lowest possible target for us would be 9. That would happen of we win, and West Ham lose. Needing a maximum of 9 points from our last 6 games not only sounds a lot better than needing 13 points from our last 6 (worst case scenario - if we lose today, and West Ham dont), but to be perfectly honest it should also be a target that we could achieve in our sleep.
