It spoke volumes for the club’s transfer policy 2014-20 that even with no recognisable striker on the pitch second half, the manager preferred to use 5/6 Academy kids and then Naby Sarr up front ...rather than call Joe Ledley off the bench. If that guy is fit, I’m a Martian.
I see that Maloney, Wiredu and Stephenson have all been recalled from their loans. We need another forward in quickly. We can't rely on the youngsters.
I'd like to think Lee Bowyer was being more or less honest in saying that Joe Ledley got his contract because he looked impressive in training. Perhaps he really did. But for whatever reason, Ledley didn't work out. At least LB didn't pick him to play more often just to back up the contract decision. Now the gaffer should have the backing to bring in better quality to shore up the rest of this season, before the longer term work of permanent squad improvement begins in the summer.
^^^^ Ledley was a body in the building at a time when we were in dire straits. It became clear after his very poor 45 min stroll away at Middlesbrough that he was nowhere near fit.
Yes, it does seem that way. Ledley was a desperation signing. I guess Bowyer could not just come out and say that, after all you can take honesty too far sometimes. I just wish LB hadn't said Ledley looked really impressive in training, if the guy never actually did. It's all just part of the compromises a manager has tom make I suppose, especially when times are tough. Fortunately, Bowyer has something better to look forward to now.
