Defender set to become first summer signing.
Defender Billy Jones has agreed a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light and will become a Sunderland player from July 1.
Speaking about the move, the 27-year-old said: “I'm really happy to be here and I'm looking forward to getting back for pre-season and kicking on.
“I've played at the Stadium of Light a number of times so I know what it's about and what great backing the club has.
“I've come to the training ground today and it's amazing. I knew I was signing for a massive club with everything in place to kick on up the league and carry on moving forward.”
Jones spent three years at the Hawthorns, making over 70 appearances for the Baggies having joined from Preston North End in 2011.
The versatile defender began his career with Crewe Alexandra, rising through their academy to play more than 130 times for the club. He then moved to Preston North End, spending four years at Deepdale.

Well he is young compared to our other defenders. Hopefully will turn out alright.

Good solid right back, likes to get forward too and has more pace than Bardo.

Good signing, we need to spend the money on quality in other areas (Centre Mid & Striker)

Not much better quality than we have got.he will be a good replacement bards that's all.<bubbly>

I can see a Billy Jones chant to the tune of Billie Jean soon... #safc

Wba fans not happy about this like

@MsiDouglas
Bit of reaction from ‪#‎wba‬. Fans seem disappointed he's left but club wouldn't go for 4-year day. Seems like a solid move to me.

Absolutely gutted that Billy Jones has left the club and joined Sunderland. ‪#‎wba‬ basically need to sign 4 full backs now.

Sunderland have got themselves a quality player there, gutted we've let him go. ‪#‎wba‬

He's a step-up from Bardo, that's for sure. right age, good player. not spectacular (which won't happen anyway), but a good start. Thumbs up from me

Happy with this signing.

Like you guys, I know nothing of him, however, a mate of mine who is a WBA diehard, is pissed off that they've let this lad go.

He can't work out why he, of all players, has been sold, not only because he rates him, but he says they were already short of defenders and already needed to invest in that department before next season.

He reckons he can read the game well, has pace, and is a versatile player who can also play CM, if needed.

Happy days - Welcome aboard Billy Jones.
