Two cathedrals CBK. One Anglican, one Roman. I'll take Chichester's over any though. The accoustics for choral music, are second to none on the south coast. This is a good indication but one really has to go along to get the feeling full blast.
I'm from southampton, I was born in Shirley (Norfolk Road) near the Dell. My dad was a docker (stevedore) and also worked on the dredgers during the construction of the container birth. My parents still live there. He loves his nautical history, cruise liners you name it. I moved to London when I was about 20, then eventually down to Kent. I've still got a bit of a Southampton accent though, even after all this time, ohh argh! Southampton clearly isn't the most attractive city, but it has history and there are pockets of decent bits such as the Norman remains etc, and indeed the parks are good. I've met a few people in London that used to live there, went to Uni etc, and they talk about it quite fondly. I visit my parents now and again, and the Humble plum in Bitterne is a great pub for a pint. other than that, not too keen on Bitterne, better parts of town. Just actually read the article that St Godders attached, and I think its excellent. Sometimes it takes a person to be from somewhere else, to really get the essence of a place, and I feel that the writer has captured that, quite poetically in parts.
