Arteta is class. Since he took over at center, Arsenal gets their first league win and comes away from Germany with a great result. True-- He plays different from Cesc. Not as much flash. But he's smart and moves the ball on quickly. But, here's why I really appreciate him, his positioning is solid and he digs in on defense. He's willing to bleed.

Walcott gets shots and scores goals. That's what he's supposed to do. Not to mention the amazing through ball for the assist yesterday.

I just don't get it. So many Arsenal fans seem to be clinically depressed, professional cynics, a wum vs their own support, or just plain weird.

For me, I can't wait to see what happens next for AFC. It's a fascinating story already. I mean how many clubs could survive last season, two of their best players leaving in controversy, and still qualify for cl, and even almost pull of an amazing upset against the German champs.

Be proud, Arsenal. Not many clubs are like yours. Don't take it for granted.

What is peoples obsession with crying troll about anyone who doesnt conform to your opinion or the opinion of 1 or 2 other guys on a thread? I thought this was a forum for adults but clearly not. I think the trolls are the people who just get personal and abuse people who simply have a different view to them. get a grip.

I feel sorry for arsenal really, hope you improve quick as i'd much rather see arsenal come 4th than the yids or scousers, but you've been pretty unimpressive lately and it don't help ramseys out with wilshere already out and the other injuries and the fact your replacements for Fabregas and Nasri are Arteta and Benayoun lol, sure your be fine when ramsey and wilshere are back though, on a good note Walcotts been very good this season for you and looks to be finally living up to his potential, I'd give that Chamberlain a chance aswell looked quality for the under 21s last month and don't even need to say anything about persie, simply outstanding and as long as he stays injury free thats at least 20goals for you, Chamberlain,Ramsey,Wilshere,Walcott with Gervinho and Persie looks much better than having to play Arshavin,Arteta and Benayoun in one of there places, still think you should of bought Alex off us or Cahill, would of bolstered the defense greatly, anyway all the best lads!!

Good reply. Well done for making a mature response. Good to see some people realise that the internet is still interaction with people and that you shouldnt just call people "pricks" when they have a different view to you. They wouldnt do it face to face, it is very rudem, but online for some reason they feel it is acceptable. With the law cracking down on this sort of online behauviour I am sure this problem will disipate slightly over time.

As for arteta, from what I have seen he seems slow in possesion. Cant do crisp short passing very well and basically looks like a liability everytime he gets the ball. Seems well out of his depth and not even the sort of player he was 2 years ago for everton.

Are you watching the same game? When did he get the ball taken off or when did he misplace a pass yesterday? He was neat and tidy on the ball. Fabregas before he left was utter **** away from home in Europe for about 2 years. Braga away was a shocker and gave Iniesta a super pass when he was playing for Arsenal and not Barca.

Spare me. Don't attempt to seize the moral high ground. You clearly wrote this article knowing it would get a rise out of people.

I find it unbelievable that you can disparage pretty much all of our new signings after only 180 total minutes of football (during which we got our first league win and a very good draw against a top team). We have not even seen Park yet and had only a brief look at Santos. They are all experienced internationals, what more could you want?

Furthermore, when pretty much everyone disagrees with your assessment perhaps it is time for you to reevaluate. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but when ones opinion flies in the face of rational thought and actual evidence they deserve to be called what they are, an idiot.

  9. To judge the players on the basis of a couple of games since the close of the transfer window is unduly harsh. Yossi Benayoun for instance only had his first chance to play yesterday and he steadily improved as the evening went on. Take the whole as the sum of it's parts and the sum contribution of everyone ended in a draw and a precious away goal that didn't come by way of good fortune. Both Manchester clubs drew tonight so we can't have done that badly. If anything I think there are positives to take away from the game and the draw puts us in a good position on the return leg. An Arsenal team playing in Europe at the start of the season would probably have lost by some margin. We are steadily improving and the added experience has helped bolster our determination and confidence. This is the time to get behind the team.

Not awful signings, but replacing Fabregas with Arteta and Nasri with Benayoun is a bit like moving from champagne to water.

Santos is a class act, saw him play for Brazil against Scotland in your back yard. A very tidy player. Mertesacker's statistics speak for themself so in theory he should be a steal for only £8m. I am confident however you Gooners will finish in the top 4, just wait till Feb when all of City's stars want their snoods back and get a touch of 'frostbite' on a cold Monday night in Stoke and United's youth are flooded with exhaustion <laugh>

Our buys are actually pretty good.

Mertesacker in particular. He looks a class act. Tall, powerful, calm and experienced.
Santos - A Brazil International with Champions League experience. At the very least a decent back up for Gibbs hopefully he's even better than that though and cements a first team place.
Park - Was at one point considered the most talented young player in Asia. Had some injury problems but is starting to show real class. Could be alot better than most expect.
Benayoun - A useful Utility player. Can play practically anywhere and puts a good shift in. Also he was FREE.
Arteta - Not as talented as Fabregas obviously but a very good player.
Campbell - Shame about his Visa issues because this kid looks an absolute Class act.

The only real issues is that we missed out on Goetze/Hazard. If we had got either of those we would be stronger than last year. I hope Wenger goes back in January for either of them.

Wilshere is now essential to us and the timing of his injury was terrible (before any new signings get to gel). I expect him to improve on last year and really start to boss the midfield for us. He's one of the brightest young midfield talents in world football. We will look alot better when he's back in the team.

The signings were pretty good - One more World Class creative player in January please Arsene and we will be fine.

Arteta - Champions League experience. TONS of Premiership experience. Needed no time to settle in. Plateau'd at Everton, a lot like Fabregas feels he did at Arsenal. Is now invigorated and willing to fight for the team. Feels he has something big to prove.

Benayoun - Premier League experience, Champions League too, and Internation Team Captain. Free.

Santos - Champions League experience, Brazilian International. Turkish league starts late so he needs training to get his fitness up.

Mertesacker - GIANT defender, what Arsenal fans were calling out for. Yes he's a bit slow, but his positional sense is great. Has looked great so far bar one lapse against Swansea where Chesney made a fantastic save.

Park - National Team Captain. Has been brought in as 3rd choice really. Will run and run and run all day - exactly the kind of tenacity the team needs.

Gervinho - Has looked good. He's got skills, pace, and drives at defenses. He's the direct player Arsenal have needed for a while. He also gets back and helps out the defense.

Jenkinson - Backup, not a bad player, wasn't meant to play as much as he has. He'll play less and train tons this year, and he'll come good.

As for Theo, yes he's been poor in the last couple of games. But he's scoring and assisting still. He gets back and helps out the defense too and is always a threat on the counter. Makes the opposition sit those extra few yards back out of fear of his pace. His stats last year were fantastic. Stats don't tell the whole story, but if he's rubbish for a whole game but gets a goal and an assist and Arsenal win that's fine by me.

There's also Oxo, who has hardly featured, but been electric for both the Reserves and England Under 21's. You don't play for the U21s at 18 and perform that well if you don't have ability. Yes he's one for the future.

I'm happy with everyone Arsenal have bought. I think there's better depth than there was last season definitely. Especially excited about Miyaichi coming in. I'm a realist, there's problems. However, defensively in the last couple of games they've looked better. They defended valiantly against Dortmund, and I'm cautiously optimistic that with a result against Blackburn, the team could be on their way up.

I thought the same. I don't intend to judge any of our new signings until they've had at least a few months to bed in. Arteta already knows the EPL but the team is going to need some serious time to gel (sadly something we don't have). I'm cautiously optimistic of our new signings. I certainly don't think they're enough and we still need 2 or 3 new players but we're making positive steps. I'm viewing this as a transition season in the same way Liverpool fans did last year. I still think we'll be able to compete with people though and fully expect us to be amongst the top 5 at the end of the season.
