I will play koscienly ahead of Mertesacker..Its either Mertesacker is still trying to find his feet in the premier league or hes just not good enough for a past paced league.

Mert is a quality CB and gives us a different type of player to the other two. But for me Kosc and TV are both too good individualy to leave them out of the team. Mert is a good 3rd choice CB to have.

It's interesting to see that almost everyone has gone for a Kosc-Verm CB partnership - all bar one person i think! I thought there would be more disagreement on that part of the team, but it seems we all mainly agree!

I think Mert is a better defender than both Verm & Kos.His problem is his lack of pace

Agreed. If Per had pace he would be a top class defender. He can read the game brilliantly, and he can tackle, but he's slow, and has the turning circle of a lorry.

Agreed, I think Merts Will improve with a run of games.

I also think Bould will have an influence and favour the Germans height and positioning over Kos's pace.

The reason he reads the game as well he does is probably down to his lack of pace.

I'm not sure how that works? I thought it would be linked to intelligence? Per seems intelligent (he is german after all), and thus is able to read what is going on.

He does not have the pace to get himself out of trouble so he has had to adjust and read the game better and think better.

Get Merts doing some SERIOUS plyos!! He could improve his speed and turning quite a bit if he had a specific training regime to improve it all, as I'm sure TheBear will tell you.

In fact, I'd have the whole team doing a few mins in every session - especially Ches who needs to be quick off the line, and the strikers who need that explosion of pace to get onto through balls.

Agreed - lots of explosive work.
I dont know how slow he is - he cant be any slower than Terry who still does a very good job at Chelsea.
