Lawro gone for a 1-1 draw and Richard Osman gone for a wishful 2-1 win to Saints (he's a Fulham supporter).

 

When was the last time that happened?

 

'Before last week, I thought it was impossible to play that well and lose a game. Man Utd were second best at the Emirates and won 3-1.

But this is a nice game for Arsenal. Southampton are a nice team. On a lovely pitch, Southampton aren't going to really get at Arsenal, and these are the games that Arsenal like, and play their best football. If they play at the same level as last week, then Southampton won't be able to handle them'

Yes I thought they didn't like playing us.

 

I keep hearing and reading about how well Arsenal played at the Emirates last Saturday. But the scoreline still says they lost.

In truth they did play well - when chasing a game their defence had already thrown away. And just as they looked like they might be able to fight back get something from the game, the inevitable happened, and they conceded again.

If they defend at that level again on Sunday, Merson's prediction is going to look a bit stupid. How often does that happen, Paul?

Southampton have had precisely 200 shots in the Premier League, fewer only than last season’s top six (and only 12 behind Manchester United), suggesting that they are something of a creative force. But only 45 of them have been on target, more only than Swansea, Huddersfield, Brighton and West Brom, suggesting either that they are wildly profligate or that they favour hopelessly optimistic efforts from long range. Nathan Redmond and Dusan Tadichave had seven shots on target this season from 28 and 21 attempts respectively. Alexandre Lacazette, Arsenal’s sharpest shooter, has had precisely as many shots on target as Redmond, Tadic and Charlie Austin put together, despite having had only half as many (52.3%, to be precise) shots overall. It is hard to know precisely what conclusion to draw from this knowledge, but it should reduce any feeling of surprise when Petr Cech watches yet another effort sail helplessly wide of his goal.

We last beat one of the top current six clubs in the league on May 6, 2016...that was the third consecutive time we won when facing such competition.

Since, we have a record of 0-11-4; we're 0-11-1 in matches where either side scored. The 1-1 scoreline against Man City is the only time we have taken a point with something other than a goalless draw.

So we'll probably win 3-0 or something.
