I was not suggesting that Jiménez, Slater or Murray would ignore the difference between 25 and 40 million. They are rich men, but not that rich. And I agree Abramovic is an exceptional case. There are not many like him about. But there are thousands who could afford to buy Charlton and wouldn't let that difference in price stop them if they wanted to.

There doesn't always seem to be any logic when a sugardaddy chooses a club to be his toy. For instance why choose Blackburn, or QPR? Why not Everton who have a great support and history? Sugardaddies like the Venkies don't know anything about football so who knows on what basis they make their choice?

No disrespect, typical, but the Olympic Games were a flash-in-the-pan that will offer no long-term benefits to this country, let alone the local communities they were held in. And let's face it, while the four rings adorned the arenas, many thousands flocked to see wrestling, badminton and tiddlywinks, yet no one cares about such silly sports now.

Football is the number one game in this country and always will be. The Olympics were about as edgy and exciting as a Satsuma, and this is from someone who actually attended some of the events, which, by the way, were sterile, largely attended by drones of the Generation X, and devoid of any partisan atmosphere.

And don't get me started on Mo Farah - I will probably be banned.

I was trying (poorly) to make the point that if you employ disinterested, lazy, n'er do wells, like we have at cafc (on and off the pitch)then the entire football package is something of a rip off. The Olympics showed what can be done with enthusiasm and proper passion.

We obviously had two different olympic experiences, my kids have been to about 40 cafc games and never took a photo, asked for an autograph, or even wanted to meet the players. my youngest goes to sleep in his team gb shirt and has 100 photos of the Olympics on his wall, my nephew took up boxing immediately after the Olympics and is now a County champion and a niece quit hairdressing and went to uni and is working her way through her sports science degree. Even yours truly has taken up squash and has jogged three times in the last year

We are taking the thread away from the title talking about the olympics but I believe that British sport will flourish in the years to come. Is it likely A Murray would have won Wimbledon without his olympic expirience? Many think not.

We will disagree on the Olympics I am afraid but football is strangling itself by its own greed and BS and may soon become a live sport available to tourists and cooperate clients.

I agree about mo Farrah tho!

Fair points, typical. I appreciate and respect your views.

I often go to non-league matches (Corinthian Casuals, Concord Rangers, Greenwich Borough) and really enjoy the earthy experiences those locations offer. On many occasions the food has been better than the dross served up at The Valley, and the effort put in by the amateur players can be far greater than that seen at The Valley, and the atmospheres can be just as exciting as The Valley, yet Charlton Athletic (and football in general) remains my true love, and I will defend it to the bitterest of ends.
