Yep, an attempt at a marquee, that's a Sully special, which generally get a lot of press just before ST renewals, but usually doesn't actually happen (it's a loan, if he does well someone else will get him), or if they do they're ****. He sees himself as a talent scout, sometimes he pulls a good stroke (Ba, Lanzini, payet) but usually it's not (the other 95% he's bought, or loaned), a Del-boy version of Abramovic. Well, the stadium got sold, so that's a + in the in column, and we got a ridiculously cheap deal on the White Elephant Stadium which probably works out at less than we were paying to maintain UP with a 40% increase in capacity. oh, the murky area of football finance, kind of reminds me of Lloyds of London and their 6 year accounting which broke the names in the 80's, the underwriters rolled the losses over so it looked like they were making a profit for 5 years until the 6th. In the 6th year they were all rolled into one so the underwriters 'earned' commission for the 5 years of profit which were actually losses and the names got bankrupted in the 6th. In footballs case it's to soften the tax bill, or flaunt FFP. We didn't have much choice at the time, as we were in desperate need of a decent, level head and experienced CB, he was probably the best option we could get (though if we hadn't sold Tomkins for 10m we wouldn't have needed him, or needed to put wingers/strikers at RB) . He didn't do badly, though took a bit of grief from the fans for some displays, but they missed the whole context of what was happening around him. It's nothing to do with commitment if you don't have the pace, that's just age and everyone on the pitch should be aware of it. 2 goals I can remember him getting stick for (one was against Chelsea, can;t remember the other) were because of our approach to playing football, caused by a small minority of fans demanding 'attacking football' rather than intelligent football (I liked SA, he would try to play the opposition, got stick for 'route one' but he wasn't anywhere as bad as Pulis. Pulis would never have had Djorkaeff, Campo, okocha and Anelka in the same team, and that Bolton side played us off Upton Park). Instead we kept ending up in the situation when we had 3 opponents in their own half and only the 34yr old Fonte' between them and our goal, that was just asking for trouble. We don;t attack with intelligence, we just throw more and more players into their half so you end up with a winger, a RB (who is actually a winger), a CM and a DM all within 10 yards of the opponents corner flag, tripping over themselves, with most of the rest of the team in the opposition between centre circle and penalty area, you can't blame the only defender who thinks about defending for the rest of the teams tactical obtuseness. In short, he wasn't the ideal signing for me due to his lack of pace, but the best we could get (disappointed we didn't attempt to strengthen the CB's this window, Collins and Fonte are close to retirement, and it shows when they run). How do you feel about the VVD situation? I don't know if it's a good idea to keep him or not, depending on his attitude. Payet killed our dressing room last season, and we were lucky not to get relegated. TBH I'm still not quite sure how we survived, a new move to an unpopular stadium with all it's heavily reported incidents, Payet sulking and strike, another year of injury crisis's, coupled with abysmal football most of the time.
Wait... hold on.... you... you mean that Liverhampton isn't the centre of the footballing universe....?!?!.... there are.... other clubs out there....!!!!!!!!
Good signing that. Still think the promoted teams aren't very strong though. Huddersfield havesigned too many average players and Newcastle have signed just Jacob Murphy.

"Both Neymar and Dani Alves phone called Alexis Sanchez yesterday, whose representative Felicevich is right now in "intensive" talks with Antero Henrique. PSG is preparing an offer of around €55m to Arsenal and a contract of 4 years to Alexis with a salary of €13,5m per year." According to El Mercurio
To be fair, Wenger spoke and put his foot down that he is staying. If it was Klopp, I'd deffo believe it. But not Arsene, I think he will go...
Cheers bud. Nice read. I too was surprised at you letting Tomkins go; I suppose there must have been something going on behind the scenes?. VD? as we now like to call him. ****, don't know where to start. I could tell you to go read the 170 page & counting thread but that's unfair. He's finally handed in a transfer request, which apparently has cost him & his agent £23M so that's a start. Now the twat has done that, we'll definitely off load but hopefully to anyone but Livershite. Maybe you could get Gold & O'Sullivan to invest in another of ours!
True, but the French league is the worst out of the top five leagues. I can't see the appeal in playing in France for top, top players.
