That's the chap Joe. Blankets are good. You don't even waste a fart at this time of year if you're wrapped in one. Keeps the warm air in lovely.
The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin.....at Sunshine Desserts (missing letters on sign).....played by Leonard Rossitter. A bit of a Walter Mitty type character.....always dreaming. Always a new reason for being late into work.....throws hat casually towards hatstand and always misses. Has the hots for his secretary Joan who always shows her interest in return....dreams of her in various situations. Mother-in-law always turns into a hippo when thinking about her. Boss CJ....never got to where he is today by not... etc, etc. Hard to believe that there was only three series and back in the 1970's, how time as flown.........Rossiter died in his fifties.
Did anyone read that a train was recently stopped at a station and all the passengers ordered off as the service was abandoned en route due to "offensive graffiti" which has been sprayed on the outside? It was feared it could offend the public as it rattled along or I expect other rail workers. Presumably it was racist or homophobic and I'm sure we all oppose that but how politically correct can you get? Surely the train could have continued to its destination and then be withdrawn from service?
I'm glad you agree Plymborn, in the 1st referendum, the public narrowly voted for Brexit without really knowing what it would consist of. Naturally there will need to be another vote when the negotiations, necessarily conducted in secret, are complete and we know what we are voting for. Remember, Brexit means Brexit but we don't know what Brexit means. Brexit noun /brek.sɪt/ - Brexit
How narrow can a one million majority be. Cameron's terms that he negotiated to stay in was pathetic...he deserved all that came his way...no wonder people voted to leave....sweeping him and Osborne away was worth it ......Theresa May was glad to see them both go.
It's 1.3m out of of an electorate of 46.5m i.e. 650k changing their minds reverses it. Changing government is what a General Election is for, not a single issue referendum which will define the success of or more likely the failure of, the UK economy for a generation or more. If that's what people voted for then they aren't fit to have a vote.
Unfortunately 46.5 million didn't vote only 33 million plus bothered to....can't they be bothered to or just not interested enough about the world around them.
That just means that if the Don't Knows now see what a shambles this is, we'd certainly get a different result. Latest is that David Davis says we could come out but pay for single market access. What sort of nonsense is that just to appease xenophobes and racists?
Everyone just waffling at the moment....testing the water....lets just get started and enjoy the benefits sooner.
What benefits? Now the metal price has rocketed today .. copper up by 20% all because brexit and Trump.. Great.. i will have to pass that on so its all going up slowly.. Boiler increase Feb 1st due to brexit.. this is just in our trade.. so all will follow.. So not much benefit.. the poor Polish lad we employ is worried sick about the future and his job.. He says his family suffer abuse.. Why? I cant see a new vote on this happening, i dont think any one knows what is happening in or out.. we are in a total mess..
Imigration figures at their highest.......well that sorted that then. I heard you , or read, complaining about minority voting or rather somebody becoming prime minister on a vote of less than 50% or the electorate previously. Well your numbers don't add up to 50% of the electorate voting out either but it seems this vote is ok because it's what you wanted but it's not ok to have less than half when it isn't. I accept this vote on Brexit because the majority of those that voted did vote that way. I don't have to agree with it though. The **** is heading fanward as we speak and there are still people who can't see it. Trust me you will before too long.
Interesting that the lib dems won last nights by-election by running an anti Brexit campaign V the much more local issue of 'anti heathrow expansion' supported by the previous incumbent who decided to quit the Tories and stand as an independent. Clearly this seat is in an area that was one of the most pro remain, so it would be wrong to suggest that this size of a swing would be repeated across the country. Nevertheless a by-election in a more marginal seat might be interesting. A second referendum isn't going to happen anytime soon but now the truth is out I suspect the result would be very different. Even my 89 year old step mum has changed her mind and wishes she hadn't voted to leave.
I think this is a real threat to the Government and to the country. I have been a Conservative voter since I was a student. You knowing the saying about if you aren't Socialist when you are 20, you have no heart and if you aren't Conservative by the time your are 30, you have no brain.... However, I won't vote for this Conservative government because of Brexit and I might even vote Lib Dem in protest. It looks as though I'm not the only one. What the consequences of that might be, God only knows. Not only could we end up with some mixed up coalition including the Nationalists, Labour and the Lib Dems. We'd have a government in power that doesn't even pretend to support Brexit. Constitutional melt down, here we come.
Poor little rich boy Zac Goldsmith is a loser whatever he does. 1.....Beaten for Mayor of London after running an iffy campaign against the new Mayor Sadiq Khan. 2.....Protesting against the governments decision on Heathrow...he resigns his safe Tory seat (23,000 majority) and causes a by election. He runs as an anti-Heathrow candidate.....the arrogance of the man to think that he will sale to victory is amazing........Sarah Olney the Lib-Dem winner was also an anti-Heathrow protester. What he seemed blind to was that this constituency was one of the strongest remain areas in the referendum....and of course Goldsmith was a Brexit supporter..... Sarah Olney.........20510 Zac Goldsmith.....18510 Majority................1872 Also to day Immigration is totally out of control...official figures from the Office for National Statistics shows that 650,000 immigrants arrived in the last twelve months to June.......an unprecedented 284,000 from EU states........net migration from Romania & Bulgaria rose to a record number of 61,000.....the government had poo-pooed concern about the possible influx from these two countries when restrictions where lifted awhile back. The figures showed that 189,000 of the EU migrants came to work.....yet only 57%....108,000 arrived with a definate job offer.....a further 82,000 arrived saying that they were looking for work....Experts said there had been a "statistiically significant" rise in the number of jobseekers, partly due to "weaker labour market conditions" in Spain, Italy & Greece. Net migration from non-EU countries was 196,000 ....a similar level to the previous year.....Asylum applications increased to 14% to 41,280 in the twelve months to the end of September. Immigration Minister Robert Goodwill said: " The British people have sent a clear message that they want more control of immigration, that is why reducing the number of migrants coming to the UK will be a key priority in our negotiations to leave the EU. The Prime Minister's official spokes-woman said the Government's ambition was still to reduce net migration to below 100,000....."but it's going to take time". PS.....all figures quoted take into account those that at the same time are leaving the country. My view.........The Government have no idea or control over immigration into the UK.....Brexit has to change that ....a strong border control force needed.....freedom of movement is a disaster letting in too many dubious people....coming in without a valid job to go to is not acceptable. Where do all these people live....the old days of Rackmanism is returning to our streets..........a rise in food banks is happening....many people cannot afford to pay ludicrous money for accomodation and eat as well.....the working mans defender of the past the "Labour Party" is led by a proven looney....who would be more successful standing for "The Monster Raving Looney Party".....a country without a strong opposition to keep them on the straight and narrow means disaster.....even for Remaining or Brexit.
I think your own stats demonstrate the issue quite well, it isn't EU free movement that is the 'problem'. Successive governments have welcomed immigration for a considerable time and a majority come from outside the EU; Why? mainly because we have a skills shortage and also lots of people who won't do some of the jobs that those from abroad will gladly do (says he who is desperately trying to find a job and failing!). Our productivity is already abysmal without removing many of those who work hard and make a make a real contribution, let alone mentioning the NHS which would surely fail without workers from other places. Obvious that this is a very complex problem that will take many years/ a generation to solve, if it ever is, but leaving the EU wont do anything to improve the situation. I too have voted Conservative all my life (and was even a paid up party member for a while). I suspect that a large number of people who voted the Tories in at the last election are 'remainers' as are a lot of the elected MPs (and the PM). Parliament will find it difficult to go against the 'will of the people' for fear of losing power at the next election. So in many ways MPs are dammed either way because they will also lose many votes and probably power once Brexit happens. Equally, many of those who voted to leave will never vote Conservative so what are we left with?. It is not inconceivable that 'the goat' might actually end up being be leader of the biggest party, clearly this would put the country back about 50 years. More likely the Lib Dems would attract the popular vote and we will end up with (as Nondistant said) a totally unworkable broad coalition who wont be able to progress anything. Bottom line is that British politics is in a mess and the Brexit vote is largely the cause. ergo, the biggest error was putting it to a referendum in the first place.
What did we expect when the vote was put to the country and a load of Jeremy Kyle watching scum.. These sort of people choose our destiny.. what do they effing know.. As long as they have their handouts and free rented accommodation .. Most of them never understood what it meant, nor did they care. Its us working people that will suffer in the end with everything going up.. I have never voted anything but tory and never will.. The vote stands as far as im concerned not what i wanted, but lets get on with it.. Every one needs to pull together and move forward.. I run a business and its tough enough, brexit has made it a little harder as prices are up but we cant increase our labour charges.. so we have to live with it to continue..
Of course all of those poor unfortunate people who are forced to shop in food banks will be able to afford to shop in shops once we leave the EU won't they. I suspect in the long run the queue at the food bank might just get a little longer. Not only do you get people moaning about all those foreign types nicking the jobs but also about people getting stuff when they haven't contributed to any of it. These are often the people who wouldn't take one of the jobs if it was gift wrapped and offered on a plate and have never worked to pay taxes themselves all of their lives. But they are English so that's ok. These are the people who have an army of others working to "maximise" their income so they don't dip out of any of the freebies on offer. When I was working how many times do you think I was told the lines "I can't apply for a job because I'd lose on my benefits and it would mean working for an extra £5 a week which isn't worth my while". Makes you proud don't it.
Just been reading the beeb football site again and see there is a story there about John Sheridan cancelling the Christmas Party at Notts County. That is several times now he has made stuff public to do with his players. I think the man is losing it big time. Apparently it's not a punishment and he is sure his players won't think it is either and will agree with him. Any bets they have one on their own without him.
