Its still as much corrupt.. I think we should defy what they say and wear the poppies with pride as usual. The trouble is they buffoons at fifa do not realise what the poppy means.. Throw us out of the world cup.. deduct points.. who gives a toss.. the poppy is more important than fifa Fook fifa
I don't give much of a toss either way either Joe. Every major national competition for years has had me a bit excited that this time we just might do something, We do but it's not the something I've been thinking of. We usually bollox it up and look poor, It is consistent though as an anti-climax. I have to say I'm getting less and less interest in any football other than the team I watch. It's so sterile nowadays. Can't tackle can't touch anyone. Players who throw themselves on the floor and roll around even when the camera shows little or no contact. It's become the domain of the cheat. In some ways you can't blame the Ref anymore because they are so bleddy good at it. It just turns me off.
Interesting article on the ....twohundredpercent....website by Ian King...who revisits the PAFC article he wrote originally. Good historical read about James Brent and the story of his 'five year plan' for PAFC....obviously not a Brent fan, and looks again at his 'record' concerning those years, comes over as dismal failure in getting his financial projects even started. Lets hope that it doesn't effect the present 'success' on the field and that he gets his act together soon because the opposition against him ain't going away. Sorry that I haven't downloaded the article....maybe notDistant will if he feels it's worth reading.
Do you know, considering we're top of the league, have an outstanding manager in place and a reduced reliance on loan players, the finances are mended to the point where the squad travel to games the day before away games, a new investor with a long term interest in PAFC has been brought on board, the ground has been bought in and there's a likelihood that the grandstand project will go forward in a reasonable timeframe, I don't think I'll bother.
Nor me and I see that we have also completed the buy back of HP and paid off the historical debt. As for the great poppy debate I think we should (and will) wear them on armbands and see what the sanctions are. If FIFA fine us then it is hardly going to break the bank, and if they deduct points then so what? It may or may not damage our chances of reaching the finals but after all these years of failure I really wouldn't be bothered if we didn't get there. Have to say I am with sensible on this-I get very little enjoyment from watching the 'big boys'- just as well I have green blood!
I see FIFA are belatedly taking action against the Republic of Ireland for the "Easter Uprising" shirts. A fine is expected - no points deduction could apply as the game was a friendly. I don't know about anyone else, but as far as WW1, which the poppy refers back to originally, is concerned, I can't help feeling that the young men of both sides were sacrificed by their leaders in an old fashioned conflict which had little to do with morality. Lions led by donkeys on both sides as I see it. WW2 on the other hand was a just war against an enemy controlled by substantial evil elements even if many ordinary German soldiers weren't infected by it. Leaving Suez aside, you could argue that conflicts since then have all had an element of moral duty about them in protecting oppressed foreign and British civilians, standing up for basic freedoms, self-determination and human rights where there was little or no direct advantage for the UK. I am always a little uncomfortable when I hear people say we should only use force to defend British national interests. Surely there is no point in claiming to be a civilised and civilising force in the world if you aren't willing to stand up against evil wherever it is. It's not always possible to do so of course and the conflict in Syria is a good example: too much of a mess to have any beneficial impact but with a real potential for utter disaster. I know many won't agree and over to you Sensible. The point I'm trying to make is that the poppy isn't a political symbol. It's a mark of remembrance for those who died and were injured for us and for what they thought was right at the time, even if popular attitudes have changed somewhat since. For me anyway, I tend to include the millions of Germans killed in WW1 in my thoughts too.
All wars are created and started by politicians who never go and fight them themselves . Even the Falklands was encouraged to save Maggie some hassle for other things not going so well. Who had heard of the Falklands before that? Few and even less knew where it was. The reason nobody wants to get involved in Syria is because there isn't anything in it for them. If there was some resource then there would be a queue. All the West will do is tut. Having said that FIFA are just dumb.
I noticed a few names on the scoring lists today that have played for the greens. Hemmings Reid Sinclair Gosling Boco Cowan-Hall Ugwu (2) Blackman Jutkiewicz Gallagher
I see a few goals were scored in the FA cup today and some big scorelines.. hopefully i can count them all up Monday..
I'm afraid so called populist ignorance is sending the world to hell in a handcart. We've got the people who don't know the difference between a ****phile and pediatrician ruling the roost and we have our political leaders to blame for not doing just that, leading. We're in a racist, isolationist, protectionist, jingoist world it seems. Last time that happened, we ended up with two world wars and a Great Depression. One of the (black American) commentators said this morning "Trump says he's going to take the country back. Who from? Who does he think has it?"
Taken back from....... Maybe the elite and those that believe in family dynasties ruling for themselves .....and the working/or not working majority not having a voice...until an election changed all that....2016 will be seen as the year of the underdog....Leicester.....Brexit....Trump....what is next.
