I really can't get that up or down with a sporting story if honest. You win then it's "oh goody" and you move on. You lose and it's "Oh shucks" and you move on. It isn't life or death. Listening to the news today and I do get upset at some of the language being used. "Hero" is one that is thrown about all over the place for people playing sport. They are not heros they are well paid athletes competing in a game of something is all. The word should be preserved for real heros. I hate it like I do words like coloured as per plym's post earlier. Those people are NOT coloured they are black just as we are not coloured we are white. It isn't being PC at all it's being factual.

Now if I was feckin starting, I’d have asked whether some of our heroines are batting for the other team, to deftly change sports.

Would that make them batsmen, batswomen or the politically correct but equivocal batters? I don’t know: until recently I thought “batter” is what Yorkshire puddings come from.

Changing the subject entirely, I did see Billy-Jean King in the VIP seats.

Just to mention that our air is so very smoky from the forest fires.
Plus part of the smoke is due to our cabin fire... i'm told it's gone.
    Not aloud in to see.
Ok here in the valley though.
I do joke about the Bears, but in real life some are gone.

I was wondering if the fires had effected your area....such a vast country hard to tell.....disappointing if your cabin has been touched.

If it's going to go then better it does when you aren't in it. I was reading about some of the fires across Europe and the fact that a good many have been started by people either deliberately or being pratts. It's beyond belief that people can be that stupid or evil in some cases.

    Good old Thames Water.

They've just sent me a text telling me that they are doing an emergency repair down the other end of my road.

They suggested that I draw some water off for emergency use.....only trouble is that they've turn off the supply which makes it rather hard to fill anything up with water in the first place.

A case of what comes first the egg or the chicken.

Yvevgeny Prighozhin, leader of the Wagner Group of mercenaries, who were deemed to be traitors to Mother Russia after marching on Moscow, has been killed in a plane crash.

I’m shocked. Was accidentally swallowing a radioactive substance or falling out of a hospital window not good enough for him?

I was going to comment on this story earlier but I thought what's the point it's not even a shock is it. The only shock is it took this long to happen. Actually that isn't true. There is another shock in that other people actually got on a plane with him cause I bleddy wouldn't given the chances.

The authorities got an initial report on the accident out in one hour. Impressively quick work.

Plane accidents are rare and only 40% of them happen in the cruise. The other 60% occur on takeoff and particularly when landing. There was no mayday call, which would indicate a catastrophic failure of the fuselage or an explosion. Who’d have thought that?

What I don’t understand is why this guy was swanning about in Russian airspace. Strikes me as being a bit complacent given how many of Putin’s rivals have come to suspicious ends.

Putin couldn't have disliked him that much....just a clean instant death.

Now if he really didn't like you he would lock you up for five years....then add another 5 years....then add another 5 years.....then add another 5 years.....then add another 5 years.....then add another 5 years.....then add another 5 years.....then add another 5 years.....then add another 5 years.....then add another 5 years.....then add another 5 years.....then add another 5 years.....then add another 5 years.....are you getting the idea.....death is easy....it's the destroying of the spirit and of any hope.

Putin trains the devil on how to be totally evil.....and most Russians cannot see past the propaganda .....the powers that be have recently rewritten the school curriculum to justify the war in Ukraine and defending mother Russia against Nazi's and the western world that is trying to destroy Russia.

This trading body called BRICS which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa...(and many more want to join)...could be the dividing of the world into two groups and I feel it is potentially a very worrying development......you have some huge populations there.....and guess who would like to control it.....not the devil but his boss Putin.

Not so easy to bring a man to trial when he has several thousand brutal mercenaries at his command. As long as he stays with them, mind, you.

He can't be the brightest star in the sky can he if he got on a plane, any plane and took off. He has had his mucky mitts in the pie mix for long enough to know how the script goes if you fall out with the boss guy. I will also repeat previous comment. Why oh why would you get on a plane with him? Actually why oh why would you even be in his company at all. As an aside though, it isn't only Putin in Government who would take such action. You would have to be extremely naive not to think Western Governments couldn't do such a thing even if they might be a bit more subtle about it.

Well he did start out as a petty criminal imprisoned at the age of 19 and then moved up the ladder to selling hot-dogs from a market stall.

On the BRICS thing Plym, nations see the sense in joining blocs where there are shared aims diplomatically, militarily, environmentally and most importantly, economically, since that is the facliitator of the others. That's especially true where there are shared beliefs in such areas as methods of government, judicial systems, governance of markets, freedom of speech (or otherwise), religion and human rights and freedoms. Most nations do anyway.
