What Augusta giveth, Augusta can taketh away... great round though, champagne round! Tommy Fleetwood hole in one was also a joy to watch: a proper "at the pin and in" none of this circling around the green stuff!! <laugh>

Two enormous crashes on the first day of the Tour de France. The first appeared to be caused by a young lady holding up a placard to say hello to her German grandparents. The second was in a downhill section with the riders travelling at 65 kms/h. Bikes and riders were flying through the air, including Chris Froome who after treatment did limp across the finishing line. We will see how many manage to continue tomorrow.

    Hopefully all are ok.

    Saw the crashes earlier.

    Very nasty.

A superb sprint finish win for Mark Cavendish today. A couple of weeks ago he was not even certain of taking part this year. <applause>

Mark Cavendish gets his third win on the Tour. Not bad for someone who is only in the race because of an injury to a team mate.

    • Two of the biggest rugby teams have pulled out of the Rugby League World Cup that was due to be held in England this autumn. Australia and New Zealand cited safety concerns for their players, and blamed "how the pandemic is being managed in the UK compared to Australasia"
You really cannot blame them. They don't want to take anything back that could so easily be picked up in England.

Yes - wouldn't be surprised if it's cancelled as they are the 2 biggest sides in terms of pulling power and marketing.

The chairman of the RFL in England is said to be angry - claiming it to be a "selfish, parochial and cowardly decision which has been taken by the Australian and New Zealand leadership." God only knows why he's angry - it means they can now go ahead with the liklihood of England being in with the chance of a medal.

It takes me back a few years to when England hosted the World Aussie Rules Football Championships - the organisers refused to let Australia take part because they knew England had no chance of winning.

Quite a few of these athletes put others like footballers to shame.

Good to see Team GB getting some golds - particularly for Tom Daley.

Will feel like a monkey off his back from the press.

It is 33°C outside, and the annual cycle race is in full swing. Normally we gather outside and cheer the lycra clad lot on, but we have all found our individual shady spots. Seven circuits of a 9.1 km course with 6.5 kms up quite steep hills. The riders are very red in the face now, lap 4, and the race has become very spread out. Fourteen have broken clear and I suspect that the winner will come from that group. Points are very important in these minor races as you can move up to bigger teams, and even earn money if you are successful.
