I have been watching a bit of the French Open tennis and they have someone, I have no idea who she is, who appears between matches to make a few comments. I thought she was standing behind a desk until they gave us a side view of her. In fact she is sitting on a stool that has no signs of the actual bit that you sit on, and she has the longest legs I can ever remember seeing. My long term memory is still ok, it is just what happened a couple of hours ago that I forget.
Saw Real Tennis at Lords last week - some old boy explained the rules, laying a chase and all that. Henry VIII was a master at this allegedly. Fascinating stuff
Public Schools played Fives generally. Eton have the Wall game and the Field Game. Harrow played a major part in the beginnings of Association Football Another Real Tennis court is at Hampton Court
Not sure if this should be in this thread or the music thread, but is worth a watch/listen anyway! http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=Cj6ho1-G6tw&vq=medium
That's a great vid BB, but this is my favourite one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z19zFlPah-o A friend of a friend knew Danny growing up, said he used to cycle a lot, I thought I did too, but I never thought you could do THAT on a bike!! The tree stuff he does is incredible!?!
Going back to the earlier posts... what is it about us 5'8" goalies? Yup, me too. Played to a decent standard but neither big enough nor fit enough to make the grade. Just the right height for refereeing though Played rugby union at school then an old work colleague of mine took me along to his club for a try out or two (I hadn't played for a couple of years by then)... after the eleventieth serious flattening I decided I was too small to stay in the way and too slow to get out of the way The club? London Irish - just a tad out of my depth there then. I enjoy watching the game now as a neutral, I can get a bit overly emotional watching Sarries, not good in a rugby crowd. Played a bit of village cricket and I can swim a bit, but these days I do enjoy a round of golf even if I am pants at it!
Have we mentioned Skateboarding - if not my one experience was on a holiday in Cornwall when I told my six year old to stand aside while I would show him how it was done - needless to say I ended up in hospital with a sprained ankle and have never been allowed to forget it
I could roller skate a s kid - people did then - before "in-line" which I have never tried. Only went ice skating a few times and found it hard
