after 4 days behind the scenes at the games helping with the boxing I really don't know what possess these men and women to get in the ring and get the crap wacked out of them. I find it really boring to watch, the netball next door is more lively.
A bloke enjoys watching netball - hold the headlines The Games go from strength to strength - and could someone explain to me what is wrong with the medal table - mine shows England at the top !!! We won a test match too. Oh Happy Days
I love having the para games mixed in with the regular games - it is a shame they cannot do that for the Olympics but apparently it would just make it too long
I do agree with you. That said, I still think the greatest legacy London gave to the Olympics was the way that the Paralympics are perceived. The support for them was absolutely phenomenal. Now for the 800 metres!
It is great to see the disabled guys get a chance alongside the abled bodied athletes to show their talents. Its going to be tight between us and the Aussies at the top - could do with a few more diving and cycling golds as they have a few strong track and field options. Max Whitlock and Jodie Williams prove Hertfordshire has got sporting talent! I hate to say it as a big football fan some of these folks do put a few footballers to shame.
Great to see some of our young athletes coming through. Clearly they are getting the right training, so why don't we get the same numbers coming through into the football ranks?
I dare say some are probably choosing to move into other sports away from football because of the limited chances. Does money and fame come into it as well? Too much too soon for some footballers whereas generally athletes in Olympic events rely on lottery funding and it can be stopped fi they fail to perform. We've always had a steady record in athletics I guess but its the improvements on a world stage in diving and gymnastics which is very good. Cycling seem to be the model to follow..
Spent two days at the Paralympics taking in everything from the tennis to basketball to the swimming to the athletics. A humbling experience, thoroughly enjoyable. Two of the best sporting days ever.
I saw an interesting interview a couple of days ago - unfortunately old age has robbed me of who spoke and what sports they were talking about (not a promising start to a comment ) The nub was some guy failed to qualify for an event at the Olympics so he turned to a different sport - and has just won gold at the Commonwealth. If anoyone else saw it maybe they can fill in the blanks my memory cannot.
Could it have been Alex Dowsett who won the gold in the cycling time trial? He suffers from haemophilia and was told he must not take part in contact sports. He tried swimming, then realised that he would never be good enough, but the swimming training set him up for cycling.
Three days at the Test match and an England win! However, some grumbles. Prices for the first 4 days of around £60 (a bit less for county members) seems too high and there were far too many empty seats, especially on days 2-4. A good turn out on the final day when a full day's play was unlikely but the entrance was reduced to £15 and £1 for kids. Also irritating was raising the price of a pint by 40p or so just for the Test. As a season ticket holder and regular attender that does feel like taking the p*ss.
OK - you are correct, it was him - and how come you who are at least 20 years older than me can remember that?
Great result - long overdue - hope at least the beer was good and they were only taking the P*ss and you were not drinking it.
I was in the 6th form at Parmiter's when Jersey last won a medal in the Commonwealth Games: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/commonwealth-games/28600665
I'm not sure how cycling can be a "safer" sport for a haemophiliac! Judging by some of the raw flesh & blood exposed after a cycling pile-up, he's probably at more risk if he falls off a bike than playing rugby.....
I was at the athletics as well. The word awesome is rarely used on this forum but it fits the bill in the case of that event.
Not sure I said I would enjoy it but its better than boxing, the participants generally more attractive and there is lots of razzamataz and the interval entertainment is excellent.
Yes you are right - I wonder whether time trials are "safer" in that respect as there is no chance of a pile up
