To those unversed in the long-running politics surrounding the race, this will sound like shocking and worrying news. To long-time observers, it will be met with a wearisome sigh - "oh no, here we go again". ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Indeedy
I think that he was given the name by his father, who as is stated in the article, is the chairman of the JCB and doesn't have the most common first name himself in Ward. Ward Jenner was an opening batsman for Jersey when Jonty was born. I have looked up both players on Cricinfo and Jenner's given name is Jonty, but Rhodes was a shortened version of Jonathan.

Horrible accident in the Tour this afternoon as Richie Porte tried head butting a rock face as he was travelling at 80 kph. Geraint Thomas also came off earlier in a fast downhill stretch and is out with a broken collar bone.
It is good to see that even in big money sport there is still some sportsmanship around. As Chris Froome was fending off attacks from all the leading riders on the last big climb of the day, he had a problem with his bike. The other riders kept to the unwritten rule that you do not take advantage of another if he is having a mechanical problem, so they waited for his support car to arrive and give him a change of bike. Some of them clearly lost out, but the sport gained. It seems a shame that some footballers are only too willing to cheat by falling over when they have not been touched. Also despite an extensive programme of testing for drug abuse, no rider so far this time has failed a test. Hopefully we now have a clean sport.
One of the reasons I like De Canio is his refusal to score when he had the chance. I also enjoyed him pushing over the referee
Is Konta fully British till she loses in the eyes of the media! Still don't think she will go all the way - Venus Williams will probably win the ladies instead of her sister. Well they actually said England collapsing was a good thing as it meant we didn't have to worry about declaring which has been an issue in the past albeit under Cook who was never in a hurry to do so.
Murray is really in trouble - not moving or serving well. Querrey has lots of power. Might just be down to Konta for home hopes!
Hmm - a 50:50 day for me today. Murray losing but Queensland winning (yet another) State of Origin series...
Quite a few Brits still left in doubles competitions. If the England women carry on their current form, Heather Knight will have fully stepped out of Charlotte Edwards' shadow - hope that they'll be at Lord's on 23rd.
Looks like it's going to be Venus in the final against a player 14 years younger than her! Has there ever been such a big gap age wise before?
