You have to hand it to Dina Asher Smith. Three years ago she was carrying athletes' spare kit off the track at London 2012. Yesterday she returned to the same track and became the first British woman to go under 11 seconds in the 100 metres. Cracking stuff.
Very difficult to see where the competition will come from. You'll always get the odd runner come through from smaller islands in the Caribbean, France, UK and Canada but nothing solid enough to present a sustained challenge. Bolt is great though - I love the feel good factor he generally brings with him. And kids adore him which has to be a plus in any sport.
Bad weekend for my family's county Cork. Hammered in the football by Kildare last night and now getting skelped by Galway in the hurling :-( At least I won't have any distractions when the footy starts!
Good weekend for team Sky in the Tour. Think that Chris Froome was really entering the red zone yesterday, and was in real danger of losing the yellow jersey. If you walk up the Champs Elysees you realise that it is quite steep, yet the pro cyclist go up it as if it were flat. They are currently going around the centre of Paris and those cobble stones are shaking the riders up. Can Mark Cavendish do his sprint and win the stage again, but it will be difficult as he has lost his two lead out men?
Way to go Cole Hammels, pitching a no hit match for his first and only the 13th time in Phillies history... the first time Chicago Cubs have failed to register a hit in 50 years. In cricket parlance it's the equivalent of taking all 20 wickets for no runs.
I was at a Grasstrack speedway meeting today. Great stuff about 38 races of various classes including sidecars. Thoroughly recommend it.
Oh well, the softball team I played for lost again - our record in our first season is 2-8. Luckily, the side we've got both our wins against haven't won at all and their defeat today means we're guaranteed 3rd as we can't catch either of the top two.
I see a Watford fan is currently being pretty horrible to some tourists in Birmingham - welcome back Mr Finn
Just watched the highlights and enjoying it while I can...hoping they don't let the good work go to waste.
Same here Theo - thought the coverage was good for a highlight show. Have the day off on Friday and have chores to do so test match special will be on all the time....
I do not often have the chance to listen into TMS these days, although I did manage an hour today. The commentators on there often provide far better entertainment than you can find on the TV schedules.
And talking of great commentators, RIP Sir Peter O Sullevan. Mention horse racing and his name would always follow pretty quickly in the conversation.
