Thank you Stuart Broad, a fine competitive bowler who had the perfect partner in crime. Both will be missed but a perfect time to go Broady.
No doubt it was sunny and dry in Manchester today ! Mind you have to say the openers looked comfortable.
Had to be Broad didn’t it . Great win Excellent comeback - probably very unlucky not to win overall. Outstanding cricket from both sides .
What a match that was. At one point it looked as though Australia would get the runs needed, but four wickets in four overs turned the game on its head.
Yesterday after the rain appeared to wash out the final test and Vestappen romped home in the Belgium Grand Prix it felt like Watford had been relegated all over again, but today it felt like Watford had scraped 2nd place to be promoted again, had the rain not wiped out the fourth Test it would have felt like Watford winning promotion through the playoffs with a nice big trophy Strange how sport can affect you
Watched the Lionesses pummel China yesterday and thought the penalty a bit dubious for handball and as for the yellow handed out to Bronze for it when she was obviously not trying to handle the ball - . Great performance but the way China played they were asking for it.
Italy and Brazil out. USA almost went and Germany struggling. Just shows the bigger nations haven’t had it all their own way .
Best our girls make the most of it then IF we could get to the final or even win it, it would show what a waste of space Southgate is and prove, if proof needed that the England Squad need what we have needed, new Coach, young hungry players in the squad and a massive clear out of the deadwood
I think Southgate has done ok and we have a pretty exciting young squad in certain areas but guess we are lacking in other areas like if Kane gets injured. And ofcourse we be don’t quite do enough when it really matters
Many years ago, I spent a delightful time at Hove in a deckchair, watching a county cricket match from first ball to last. Several times each day a man came round selling updated scorecards at 1d each I think. It was all very gentile, no high stands, and polite applause when a wicket was taken or a ball was despatched to the boundary. I dare say, county cricket is not so different today, apart from the man with his scorecards. Compare that with the "Hundred" form of the game and it is a world apart. Another example of how immediate things have taken over. New items 24 hours, football that cannot have a replay, and politicians telling us that something can be put into effect straight away, but meaning a year or so down the line. Is it better? For cricket, it is. It would have died if only the county championship had existed now. But slogging at every ball doesn't seem to have the grace of a delicate glance to backward point.
I remember those score cards and came across a few I kept recently. I remember going to Lords and if you wanted to you could sit on the grass behind the boundary rope. I took a picture of Boycott fielding close to the boundary. Like today, not many people watching Next week I am going to a Hundred day for the first time at the Ageas Bowl, pyjama cricket in a disco anyone? Cricket has evolved into many forms that different sections of the public can enjoy which is ok if the traditional game does not disappear.
A bit of a fan backlash against the Brisbane Broncos coach yesterday. For their last fixture before the finals series, he elected to rest half of the first team players, and lost 22-32 as a result - a win or a draw would have given them the minor premiership title. Their only rivals for the title are Penrith, who are currently leading in their match and look like taking the title. I think if have been a tad angry too - apart from anything else, match tickets and flight costs aren't particularly cheap.
A trickier match - they play Melbourne again, the team who beat them yesterday. Had they not lost, they would have played NZ Warriors.
Awesome performance by Brisbane Broncos this morning - with their top stars re-instated they completely wiped the floor with Melbourne, winning 26-0. Sweet revenge for last week's scoreline.
