I remember my sister-in-law's husband - a singer who had been made bankrupt thanks to a dodgy agent - having to sell their house in Bow at below market value in order to pay off their debts. A year later, the chancer who made the derisory bid sold it for three times what he paid for it, simply because of its proximity to London Stadium.
Sorry to hear that - yes sadly were probably a few who took advantage of the situation and gained from it.
Although the sporting events brought huge success to so many of our participants, my main memory now is of the opening ceremony. It took us through the country's history of change, with smoking chimneys appearing from nowhere to signify the industrial revolution, etc. There was the section on how proud we were to have healthcare for all through the setting up of the NHS. Ten years on and it is in tatters.
Might watch the Opening Ceremony on DVD. Happier times. Mrs Fez and I couldn't get to the Olympics but we spent two fantastic days at the Paralympics. Chief claim to fame was, unfortunately, whacking actor Samuel West in the face with my rucksack having accidently trodden on his fiancée's foot as we were leaving the athletics to get to the swimming! Mortified!!
So I walk in through the front door, and I see the cricket is on: 6 6 W W 1 (dropped on the boundary) 6 6 6. Extraordinary! Hadn't even got off the "welcome" mat!!!
Yes Ferrari really have messed up so many times! Even Mercedes are catching up with them. BTW what has happened to our white ball cricket side - gone to pot.
Eddie Butler died suddenly aged 65. Very sad . Was a mainstay of the BBC ruby coverage . https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/62919134
What a finish to the T20 match between Pakistan and England. Protecting a low score, Pakistan looked easily home until Liam Dawson stepped up and put England into the driving seat, only for the Pakistani bowlers to hit back and bowl England out. Edge of the seat stuff.
After a couple of narrow defeats that was certainly a very convincing win ! Particularly by Salt - put the bowling to the sword .
A rather exhilarating NRL grand final from Sydney this morning - I just hope that Watford can dominate Stoke the way Penrith just dominated Paramatta...
First Worcester now Wasps into administration. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/63232043 Not a good time for English rugby .
Watching the Australia v Scotland RL World Cup match - looking at the Aussie team sheet, Scotland are in for a hiding I fear. Ten minutes gone, Aussies lead 10-0, and had a try disallowed inside the first minute.
