Was it the last winter Olympics or the one before that went ape **** for curling and burly Scots women? I dunno about you but comparing large Scottish women with sweeping brushes in the winter Olympics to summer sports such as beach volleyball, not sure how on earth it got such attention
I think you're probably referring to Rhona Martin. And that was ****ing ages ago, 2002 Salt Lake City Cause you sure as **** aint talking about Eve Muirhead, who is well worth it.
Other way round for me. Love the Olympics and love the Winter Olympics, its a bunch ludicrous sports that can go wrong at anytime. The Snowboard cross and Ski-Cross are always great to watch.
Rugby was awful. Scotland we on the rack there cos they are useless but one stupid incident and it all turned about. However England looked like all they wanted was to kick the ball away and that's not good rugby. That's the game 3 or 4 years ago. Why England didn't kick the pen for the draw and then back themselves with the final possession I do not know. Already have likely thrown the 6 nations away first day. Wales were worse than useless France just warmed up v Italy.
Not too shabby performance from a young and inexperienced side but there was some experience in the team and we definitely should have took the kick to equalise. The more I see of Marcus Smith the more I like his style of play.
too much kicking for me. **** sides like wales, Scotland and italy only have so much defending and tackling in them and the ball a mile in the air allows them to engage in the same kicking or hold the ball a bit and rest. Italy were leading France just before HT but then it all implodes. thats grinding them down wales were blown away by ireland who missed kicks to be 16-0 or something after 20mins. england the other hand dominated physically imo but the same old ****bags did the same old undisciplined rubbish rather than get the basics right England had all the ball but failed to actually break through as the creativity wasn't there. 63% possession first half. giving pens away (sinkler as usual) failing to kick points when on offer, one good maul held up, the most obvious possible deliberate knock on when 7 points clear, ****ing up a throw in with no replacement hooker on the pitch and conceding the winning pen. all in all I'm well done with eddie jones as he's systematically failed to resolve the indiscipline thats a consistent issue and points leak. 15 points for finn russel off the boot is not a lot but those 5 pens represent the rare times Scotland were capable of getting up the park to kicking distance! Ireland and france bonus point wins. the only thing that can be said is we got a losing bonus point to not be totally out of it (yet) roll on italy.... at least they are one side thats even more undisciplined. 50 point win needed. wales play scotland. lets see if scotland can follow on or will do the usual. France v ireland to decide the 6 nations already. France win and its all but over.
See things are going well in Beijing for GB. Expecting a big fat 0 come the end. Whilst I don't expect us to ever be a Norway or Canada (we've got two proper mountains and they only have snow on them for about 2 weeks of the year so that ain't helping) but the Netherlands have zero mountains and is flatter than a pancake. There's enough Ice rinks around the country and you can always train out of the country, the alps aren't that far away.
Dutch have always loved an ice skate for whatever reason. I might be wrong but I recall the commonwealth games.build of the velodrome creating an exponential gain in elite medals in cycling. strangely dancing on ice has not inspired any figure skating medals. Speed skating really ought to be something the UK can get a but good at without that.much effort surely?
Short track Speed Skating does look like chaos and really hit or miss to actually win But you'd have thought anything involving an ice rink (barring Ice Hockey, cause the other countries have pro leagues) should be fairly accessable to aim for. Talking about facilities, used to have the ski village here in Sheff and that used to introduce kids to downhill and snowboard stuff, but it went into disrepair and then someone burnt it down.
Maybe there's an elitist element at play. The types that go to the exclusive.ski lodges of Europe and pretend to be serious about the sport.
