Ages since I've watched a full cricket match, the commentary and atmosphere are brilliant. Earlier when Joe Root was being treated for a nose bleed, Nasser Hussain said "It looks like Joe Root is being treated on his nose". The other lad commentating (can't remember who it was) says: "Good job its not Nasser, we'd be here all week"

As well as trying to post the day's highlights, I'll be posting the daily exploits of a small wrestler named Enho who's just breaking into the main game. He'll be conceding weight to every one. In some bouts he'll have to give away 250 - 300 pounds. To survive, he has to rely on guile. His public impact is such that he's one of the few new wrestlers to earn the support of sponsors. Here's his day 1 effort.

There were one or two upsets on opening day, but most of the big guns got the job done. The top division is made up of five rankings, Yokozuna, Ozeki, Sekiwaki, Komusubi & Maegashira. By stopping the clip, it's easier to figure out the rankings in each bout.

I can't believe how lucky I've been in stumbling into sumo at a time when one of the greatest wrestlers in the history of the sport is strutting his stuff. Hakuho's career stats are amazing. He's like being a step above Bradman.

I'm a huge fan of anyone who stands well clear of the the rest Red. All too often we carelessly use the term "living legend," but in Hakuho's case, he deserves the accolade. He's the only man in the history of the sport to win a thousand bouts, the only man to win 86 his 90 yearly fights, (done twice) only two men have won more than 30 tournaments, (Taiho 32 & Chiyonofuji 31) Hakuho has won 42 will probably win more. No other Yokozuna has reigned anywhere as long as Hakuho.

Day 3 for the little rooster Enho. It looks as though the boys are trying to figure out a way of handling him. The big man Kotoyuki tested Enho's nerves today.
