showed his colours there , as you say , bad loser ..........the guy can put a glass eye to sleep in play .....
I don't know if Ronnie O's stupid ball thrashing was disrespectful to Selby or not - debateable. However it is certainly disrespectful to the sport. I feel Ronnie has lost the plot, and his post match comments ARE disrespectful the the sport's traditions and competitions. He says he doesn't care about the "stories" and it isn't (for him) about winning the World Championship but rather about how he feels about his own game. Me, me, me - what about the snooker fans who want to see the best snooker played by the best players? Ronnie is a superbly gifted player - the best player I have ever seen, and I've seen a lot - and I'd rather watch an in-and-out performance from Ronnie than a boring methodical slow slog to success from some of the sports grinders. But at a professional level, you have to have more regard for the competition than just the ability to play good snooker. Not bothered about the world title, Ron? The don't fecking enter. The competition will be the poorer if you don't, but better than having to witness your petulance and throwing away of frames just because you feel your cue action isn't perfect. He will remain the biggest attraction to snooker, I just hope he finds some dignity along the way.
Don't get this, all rare talents are loopy , they have to be, he was playing selby at his own game there , result , he beat him . Whacking balls is a tactic to upset the opposition sometimes, it paid off.......
Ronnie's head had gone, and i think he did try to put Selby off. Is that was the reason he won, that's up to debate, but he's made the final so he wont care. He his own worst enemy at times, crazy good then crazy bad, but that's what puts bums on seats to use the old saying of one Hurricane Higgins. I will defend Selby here on some of his play, he's not that slow when he's in full flow and like most of these top, top players when they are on form they make a very tricky game look ridiculously easy. But when you are playing against a player who is the greatest player ever, the most entertaining, most supported, most everything it will mess with your head if you yourself are struggling. To be fair I think both players were under the cosh for differing reasons but from a watching point of view it was absolutely brilliant to watch...
If Ronnie had kept playing snooker the correct way shall we say then he would of lost. His tactic was to unsettle Selby by going all guns blazing and it worked, that is sport, you use what is at your disposal to win, all was perfectly legal. A boxer in the last round behind on points throws a load of haymakers and brawls away, he lands that ko punch, job done.
Play to your strengths not your opponents , in any competition surely ? Proper way to play , wtf is that ? Queensbury rules , after you sir .........?
It was said of the great Sergey Bubka that he would increase the World Record target by small increments as he would receive a bonus for each and every time he did it. They reckon that at his best he could have put the target so well out of reach we would still be chasing the target he set. He set it some 17 times in the end, smart manl...!! Saying that, this lad looks like he could fly, so good luck to him. His target is currently held by some Swedish bloke called Armand Duplantis, 6.18 meters or 20 foot 3 1/4" inches in old money...!!
I can't get enough of this stuff, I'm addicted. The talented, young Norwegian, Jakob Ingebrigtsen again does battle with the brilliant Timothy Cheruiyot in the Diamond League 1500m.
