Reebs, it's always been about how far you can hit it for a very long time now. I have a mate who buys a new driver, or tests one out nearly every month, more if he could, just to get 1 yard further on his drives. I wouldn't mind but he's a 3 handicapped golfer, can hit it miles, and has as good a control round a green you could hope to have. The one thing he can't master is his sand play, but then again, he'd use a driver in that if he could...
No good week 2. Vikings got pumped. Chiefs won but didn't cover the handicap and Saints suffered a shock defeat to the Raiders. Week 3 bet: Cardinals -6.0 Falcons -3.5 Rams +2.0 49ers -4.0 Seahawks -5.0 Eagles -5.5 £5 returns £247.55 College football is slowly starting up again so here's my first attempt at that this season: Auburn -7.0 Boston College -20.0 Florida -13.5 Cincinnati -13.0 UCF -27.0 LSU -16.5 £5 pays £253.59
Not sure if anyone saw or have seen the result of the time trial at the world championships for cycling? a very impressive win by Ganna who took 20 odd seconds out of Wout over 35km of easy racing with an average speed of 53km!! Another changing of the guard moment in this topsyturvy season. This weekend it is the road races for the women and men. It’ll be interesting to see how much the likes of Wout and Alaphillipe have left in the tank. The one interesting bit from the time trial was how well Geraint went, finishing fourth and doing so without his bike computer to pace himself. He is beginning to come good before his Grand Tour in a few weeks time!!
No good for my first attempt. Boston and UCF won by 3 and 23 points respectively so didn't cover the handicap. And the defending champions LSU were comfortably beaten. They were always a risky bet having lost a record 14 players to the NFL draft and 17 players overall. This season is a complete rebuild for them. Auburn, Florida and Cincinnati all covered their respective handicaps. Wasn't the worst attempt. Try again next week.
I'm watching the race, I have 3 bets only win Pogacar 9/1 Valverde 14/1 (for sentimental reasons) Caparaz 50/1 The way the race is going Kwiatkowski can be dangerous.
In the old days, it was jump in the cars and drive your arse off. Not anymore. All of this, even before the race begins.
The talent that is Julian Alaphillipe got the win, breaking away and taking a win that clearly meant the world to him. It is amazing how the roles reverse from the teams of the tour to the national teams for these events. Instead of people refusing to help him chase Herschi et al in the tour, it was others refusing to chase him to aid others yesterday.
There are few better sporting sights that when two super stars get to clash. This Sunday in London, arguably the greatest marathon runner in history, Kenya's Eliud Kipchoge will meet the brilliant Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele over the 42k course in St James' Park. Kipchoge, who set a paced, non recognised record of 1:59:40 last October, holds the official world record which stands at 2:01:39. Bekele missed that record by just 2 seconds when winning the Berlin last year. Eliud Kipchoge has won 12 of the 13 marathons he has contested, 8 of which have been majors. Kenenisa Bekele has a star studded, gold medal history on the track and cross country courses. 3 Olympic Gold, 5 World Championship Gold, 1 World Indoor Gold, 2 Major Marathon Gold and an amazing 11 World Cross Country Championship Gold. I can't be sure, but I think there may be some kind of horse race taking place in France on the same day. But in the overall scheme of things, that's of little consequence I suppose. Almost a non event.
Another bust last week. Onto Week 4: Saints -4.0 Cowboys -4.5 Texans -4.5 Seahawks -6.5 Cardinals -3.0 Rams -12.5 £5 returns £289.32 And second attempt at College football: Boston College +14.5 Florida -17.5 Kansas State -2.5 Texas -11.5 Tennessee -12.5 Oklahoma vs Iowa State over 63.0 total points. £5 returns £237.05
Great story from Ben Collins of BBC Sport. Look how long it took after Fritz Pollard's death for African-Americans to return to playing and coaching NFL football. It is appalling that this 'White Supremacy" nonsense is very much in the spotlight to this day. ........................................ NFL: Fritz Pollard's pioneering role in American football history: By Ben Collins BBC Sport Extract from article: "In 1921, Pollard became the league's first black coach and in 1923 its first black quarterback. Yet after he retired, the doors he forced open were slammed shut by a 'gentleman's agreement' that saw African-Americans banned from 1934 until 1946." https://www.bbc.com/sport/american-football/54342296 ........................................
No good again. Texas lost by 3 and Florida only won by 14 so didn't cover the handicap. The other 4 came in so some encouragement at least.
Geraint Thomas pulls out of Giro d'Italia with fractured hip After coming off his bike yesterday, got a water bottle stuck in his front wheel, Geraint Thomas has pulled out of the Giro. It's one of the toughest races of the cycling Tour but you aint gonna compete with a fractured hip now are you...
