We look like a typical Championship side rather than one who has just been relegated... We were only favourites because the bookies though all our "star names" would play. With the current squad picked we'd probably be ranked about 7th-10th.
Definitely, Mark. Until we move on the star names, they are draining money that is our parachute payment. We need to offload asafp! Then perhaps we can use that money strategically. But such a radical restructuring when relegated is necessary given we had an old Premier League squad. We’ll be left very, very ordinary, I think. Then we need to build, increase cohesion, buy into new tactics. It ain’t happening this year.
Well let's hope the manager is given time as it was felt with a one year contract it was promotion or bust for Ivic
I have no idea about the relative quality of teams in the Championship. Are Middlesbrough and Sheff. Wed. good bad or indifferent? Consequently I don't know how good or bad we are. It is pleasing that we haven't conceded yet. That had better continue on Saturday.
Not 2 of the potentially better teams and we probably would be beat them easily with a full team tbh but then the Championship does to be unpredictable! Yes it is good we have kept 2 clean sheets - for their confidence.
More worryingly, we have been touted as one of the best teams in the division, certainties for promotion - but our two performances so far certainly don't reflect that. Early days I suppose - and a lack of a proper pre-season, late appointment of Head Coach and not knowing which players are coming or going all contribute to that. Our not having conceded yet is more a reflection on the opposition for me - certainly Boro should have put at least three past Foster. I don't know what Vlad put in the half time cuppas in last Saturday's match, but I hope he injects them with it before kick off from here on in - it did seem to spark something in the team.
Hmm - Bristol City beating Sheff Wed and Bournemouth currently leading Norwich means we have slipped down two places on the ladder...
I like the fact that a 101st minute penalty for Barnsley pegged back Bristol - and that our next opponents lost at home to the Florists...
All the top results did not hurt us really........ we just need to carry on being strong defensively...... and getting it in the net ourselves
We have made a solid if uninspiring start. I think the fact we have let very few in is a positive sign too.
Channel flicking through tonight's Championship matches has me wondering what happened to the standard of previous years - it's pretty dire really. Good to see Bristol City and Luton both currently losing though...
It's as unpredictable as ever. What will be predictable though is Phillip Cocu getting sacked at Derby.
