Set up own company, specialising in pneumatic control systems, just over 7 years ago. Ten months later the recession hits and we have to batten down the hatches, little financial reward, very few days off but we are still going and I wouldn't go back to working for someone else again. Things are improving financially and I've even had a few days holiday here and there. Life is grand but would love to retire sometime in my mid 50's. Still got a few years left to go though.
I'm a manager for a company that supplies equipment to the Oil and Gas industry in Abu Dhabi, best job I've had and just love it out here, only draw back, can't get the games and miss the family, but they get out here quite a bit now. Heat can be a bit much, today its been about 44 degrees.
I design fire engines now in Guildford after moving up off the shop floor where I used to be a welder. Served my apprenticeship at Clarke Chapmans which was a great job. Don't like where I am now and think there are redundancies on the horizon due to government cut backs, the councils have got no money to spend on new engines, too busy lining their own pockets no doubt. Training to be a driving instructor at present and have a trainee licence, love it and could see me doing that from now till Sunderland win the league.
I was thinking of moving back to lowestoft, got an instant start over the phone, did 2 day induction, 1st day in factory, never went back, got a job with anglian windows
Yet another rash comment from sanddancer I see... For the record I'm a duty manager for the facilities department at the university of Sunderland. canny job, although the shift work can be a pain..

What questions Minxy, the op? Most on here know, that i'm a manager of a building company, we only build for foreigners, none of that cheap thai muck. Before that, i was a manager of an import food company, getting food here, that isn't normally available. Would i ever leave, my current job? Who knows what could happen, i've often had thought of going to England one day, and opening up a very nice, authentic Thai resturant, Worst jobs, christ many, most of them revolve around Nissan, and the supplier companies...i can't stand that company to work for. Obviously, in all of this, i have left out the time in the marines..that was a different ball game, and won't bore folks with that malarky. Anything else you would like to know Minxy, dearest?
