if you like real ale go to the maltings(http://www.maltings.co.uk/), if your getting the train down you will see it on your right hand side just before you get into main city, if itis continental type lagers try the Three Legged Mare(http://www.yorkbrew.demon.co.uk/three_legged.html) which does real ales and erdinger, leffe etc, The Last Drop Inn, just down from the Mare is good also my favourite, http://www.blackswanyork.com/, just walk down from whipmawopmagate and turn left, 5 minute walk, there is also the Golden Fleece which is not my fave but worth a visit as it is "different" and has been visited by Most Haunted tv program. Finally Brigantes (http://www.markettowntaverns.co.uk/brigantes.asp?Tavern=Brigantes&Section=Main)which is not too far from the maltings and has a host of other decent bars in staggering distance. Ye Olde Starre Inn and teh Yorkshire terrire are not bad nor is the Hole in The Wall and the Exhibition are good pubs but need tracking down, excellent indian next door to the Ex. If you like making the odd indian go to Raffi's Spice Box on Goodramgate, handmade bags of curry ingredients, you add the meat, veg etc and cook - totally authentic curry - impress your mates!! Well jealous - enjoy.
They are everywhere in the civilised world. Despite everyones fascination with it, I agree KFC is by far the better the option.
