Only Fools and Horses was excellent until around the Jolly Boys Outing one! Then they sharply declined from there!

    My history of excellent comedy

    Laurel & Hardy
    Hancock
    Bilko
    Steptoe
    Porridge
    OF&H
    Young Ones
    Filthy Rich & Catflap
    Bottom
    Father Ted

I cant think of anything more recent that I think is worthy to add to the list! Maybe Peep Show, Inbetweeners????

Yeah I'd agree with that, the earlier ones were much better, I sit and watch them now still on Sky when there's nothing else on.

Inbetweeners series was ok, the films were ****. Few episodes were decent but that kid with the spikey hair does my head in.

Peep show I can't watch, that's Robert Webb's fault, total gimp.

Well no need to take it quite so literally. Seen probably 3 of his DVD's and in everyone he has at least once said words to the effect of "I rape babies". I'm not comparing him to Boyle who is also a clown but I just don't see what is funny about that, I could go on stage and say that, a really good comedian should be able to do it with class and subtlety too, this shock humour is not for me personally.

Have to agree - funny if it's done once in a while but for too many comedians it's pretty much their stock trade.

I find it to be an easy cop-out and time-filler, making people laugh because they can't believe what you've just said, not because it was humorous.

I like all kinds of comedy from the 'classics' to the irreverent anarchic stuff like Bottom.

But Father Ted tried things that even the 'alternative' comedians didn't attempt ...... sometimes they didn't work but, when they did, they were incredible. I'm still not sure how they got away with some of it.

Well you said it's all he ever seems to do, I don't see the part where you made out it was a throwaway comment, to be honest you come across very serious on here.

Why watch the 2nd and especially the 3rd DVD if you don't like him saying he rapes babies?

He's referenced a child joke once in all four of them, about when he told an awkward joke at a dinner party, it had nothing to do with a baby, it was an 8 year old, just to clarify your 'analysis'.

His other 'rape joke' was that he ran over an old woman whilst drink driving, he didn't kill her, he just raped her... hardly ****ing offensive mate.

Over 90% of his stuff is not shock humour, it's fine to not like him by all means crack on but don't stick him in a box he doesn't belong in, with prats like Frankie Boyle.

You come across as either Ricky Gervais himself or one of his fangirls. For crying out loud mate, I'm giving my opinion one one comedian, why are you getting so uppity? Telling me what I can and can't watch, howay man you sound daft.

    What you talking about PP?

If I said Shearer was **** all he ever seemed to do was kick people in the face and he barely scored any goals, then you'd probably put me straight on the facts.

You said something about a comic that I like that clearly was wrong, I've said I don't give a **** if you like him or not and never once inferred what you should watch, I just find it odd that you watched 3 DVDs of somebody you particularly detest.

You're filling your nappy cos I laughed at Sky Larkers comment last night, you sad, boring sack of ****, go **** yourself.

Who is Skylarker and what comment was this? If your are as riled up as you sound, which I'm sure you'll say you aren't (it's only an internet forum etc) then I genuinely apologise that wasn't my intention. I just find it strange that you are reeling off every joke Ricky Gervais has ever told as if you know it like the back of your hand, perhaps it was a sky plussed show or something rather than a DVD I watched? I neither know nor care to be honest. Have a nice day mate and take some xanax.

A light hearted thread about the gift of comedy shouldn't see folk falling out.

Fair play to both of you <ok>

Statler and Waldorf, Bill Hicks, the bloke who plays Steve Macdonald. On the other hand I know someone who went to see dawn of the planet of the apes at pictures but he was a week too early. His girlfriend then suggested mrs browns boys the movie that he then sat thru, he came back from pics absolutely stotting. I HAD NOTHING BUT SYMATHY FOR HIM WATCHING THAT FING RUBBISH , THE WORST TV PROG EVER MADE AND HE had to sit thru a film of it

The mother in law loves that Mrs Brown's Boys, even she said the film was shocking.

Steve Macdonald <laugh> I know somebody who actually has all of his mannerisms, it's uncanny.
