I'm in my second year at Leeds Uni, and it is absolutely brilliant. A great uni and a great city, loads of students in Hyde Park and Headingley and nightlife to rival Newcastle!

I'm sure Loughborough did well on university challenge before, so it must be full of smart people.

Not sure, I just googled "Leeds screwdriver stabbing" and judging by the number of articles, it must be a regular occurance down there.

Some student was shot with a crossbow when I lived there. Can't they just use normal weapons or something?

I literally just googled 'crossbow shop', but yeah, it seems a ridiculous thing to use to attack someone, it's hardly concealable is it <laugh>

Was Ted Nugent in the area? Like on tour or something. I hear he's a fan of shooting stuff with crossbows.

I've heard its the other way around!

Also why is Newcastle not in the mix? pretty sure its the best of both worlds quality uni with good rep and students come from far and wide for the night life!

That is exactly what uni is for, staying at home for it means missing out on many experiences.
I am at Liverpool uni now and I can say it is pretty good. The city itself reminds me of Newcastle, many people live in the surrounding area but the city centre is compact. So there is lots to do in a small area. The people are friendly and it is quite cheap (housing especially which matters in later years of uni). It has a really good music scene as well. I'm not a Biologist but I know a few and the department seems good. It isn't as rough as made out, the student halls are in a nice area. Just stay out of Anfield and Toxteth near the river and you'll be grand.

I like Glasgow but don't Scottish unis take 4 years? That is expensive. Also the Scots there don't have tuition fees so you may find yourself the poor one!

I've heard Loughborough isn't that lively apart from sport. This is hearsay mind. Bear in mind small unis away from cities can make the student's insular, some people love it but other hate it (if you are a city kid). It means everything is 'studenty' ie cheap/cheesy. But hey I went to Durham that is like that and it was epic.

    Anyway good luck
