John Kerry is on the radio right now, hypocrite of the highest order considering his criminal bloodletting that even shocked his commanding officers in Vietnam.

Crimea at the time of its transfer from the Russian SFSR to the Ukranian SSR was given an autonomous status with a constitution granting its people the right to self detirmination. They vote at the end of this month, their choice should be respected.

Scotland, to put things in perspectice, has far less legal right to self determination than Crimea.

I think Scotland are exercising their right of self determination in September.

I'm surprised at your naivety Imaz. Legality only matters in power politics when it suits the participants. And an agreement between two entities that no longer exist will only count if it fulfills this criterion - which in this case it probably does.

That was the point I was making. If Scotland has the right Crimea has even more so from a constitutional/legal perspective.

There's a written constitution too in the case of Crimea.

I think a written constitution is worthless where the people themselves overthrow their elected Government. Russia are not going to take any notice of the laws of a foreign country that have just invaded.

Not sure that's strictly true. There are agreements signed between the UK, Kingdom of Italy, German Reich, Soviet Union etc that are still in force. Anyway the transfer was from the Russian SFSR whose direct succesor state is the Russian Fedeation and remains legally binding in International Law.

Notice how little this right of the Crimea is mentioned on UK news. News can no longer be believed, look at how th Tessa Jowell, Dromey business was handed to the public as Cameron's close adviser was being arrested more than three weeks ago for child porn and how that was witheld from the news until yesterday

Actually those laws are the very ones Russia are using as justification. Why have they not invaded Eastern Ukraine where they have support? Answer: the same constitutional rights that exist in Crimea do not exist in Donetsk, Kharkov and the rest.

There is no need for Russia to move into the Eastern Ukraine because the huge Russian support their will do it for them. It is also early yet and more Russian movement shouldn't be ruled out.

This is also now on the BBC website

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-26442381

I guess this is a response to "The US threatens to "isolate Russia politically, diplomatically and economically" if it chooses not to de-escalate the crisis"

Tbh nothing really surprises me any more. I spent a while in my youth worrying about all this sort of stuff and don't really bother too much about it any more. Little old me can't do much/anything to change it so I tend not to spend to much time stressing about it any more.

Being a QPR fan is enough to be stressing about let alone the end of the world. Mankind will most likely be the end of mankind if an asteroid does not wipe us out 1st.

My final say on this thread is in my opinion the worst case is another cold war. If this all goes tit's up and we all get nuked then so be it. It's been fun and best wishes to ya all.

    Peace.

Now back to whinging about QPR on other threads!

Putin would be, if he wasnt so fearful and powerful dwarf, a comical charecter. This very worried time and better hope it just is about "measuring their genitals"-thing. After all we finns know trustful those russians/sovjets can be.......

They weren't a buffer state 30 years ago, and the have been since. Russia has maintained a large base on the Crimean since independence. That post, Sevastopol, is where Russia's Black Sea Fleet are based. That give their ships clear entry into the Mediterranean.

Have you ever been to Istanbul and seen the Bosphorus straits NY? I think 'clear entry' involves asking Turkey, a NATO member, very nicely.

Norfolk. Would anyone notice the diffence if it was a nuclear wasteland?

Shame about Norwich but they're getting relegated anyway.

There's an international treaty that guarantees free passage iirc. Don't have the link right now but am 99% certain that's the case and has been for decades if not longer.
