Good post Herr Uber. There's probably a generational aspect to it aswell. Its why Taarabt divides opinion so much too. He epitomises the flair and flamboyance the romantics love and also the wastefulness and bad attitude the pragmatists hate. (Purists in the footballing sense, IE the way the game "should" be played according to those folks. On the floor, silky and smooth etc )
For ease of identification could each faction have a special avatar. Those of us who straddle can have a blue UN badge. Truth be told Swords my heart is definitely in the first group, I just don't deny the logic of the second. Plus I hate the championship with a passion. You are right about roots though, as I've said before my whole concept of football was shaped by the QPR and Dutch teams of the early - mid 70s, an incredibly hard act to follow. Winning and style are far from mutually exclusive though.
Yes your last sentence is spot on! I thought you were a lady boy taxi driver not a sociologist Swords! You can't put people in boxes, we don't fit. I certainly don't want us in the Championship and I hate us losing. I think we need far more quality in the team for the PL than we had or really needed in the Championship. I don't mean a whole team of new faces as Hughes but about the 5 top quality new players TF said was the aim. I have not seen this yet on the attacking side at least, and when Remy is doubtful and Adel not Arry's sort, I am very concerned we will not have the attacking quality needed to survive in the PL. Of course if we entertain too great but survival again is the priority. This is pragmatism mate, not blind adherence to team ethics, nazi squads, and hallelujah choirs.
My first experiences were in the late 50s early 60s watching bits of the games with my dad and the rest of the time running up and down the grass embankment at the back of the South Africa Road terraces. With the players coming out of the old wooden stands on the other side (which I think Milwall fans set fire to one time) my expectations we never high. Things of course changed but I still enjoy any QPR football as long as its not played in the (old) 3rd division.
Agree with Swords analysis. We all enjoy watching exquisite skills on show (like Adel showed us in the 10/11 season), but when playing "beautiful" football comes at the cost of survival in league, or missing out on promotion, is when the ethos/balance of the side is clearly wrong. Thats where successful sides know how to win "ugly". Which requires dedication and application of the flair players to do the hard yards, tracking back and helping defence out, when the team isnt playing well.
Not so sure, mate .............. there could be a higher calling in time to come. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...t-fit-QPR-pair-England-s-management-team.html
