All they have to do is read Book Face, as I'm told they advertise on there.

    Same here.

This is more like getting rid of people who do their job annoyingly **** rather than political correctness.

Who the **** got paid actual money to come up with something as crap as "a great gift for boys" FFS

Who the **** thought their customers would be incapable of buying toys as a gift without some **** sign next to it telling them what to do?

Why can't a girl play with a boy toy or vice-versa...?

    They can!
The sign didn't say girls couldn't play with it, just that it would be a great gift for boys.
The sign only becomes a problem if people adjust their life decisions according to what a sign in Tesco says, and if they do that, they have much bigger problems than a Uni sex doll.......

How much do Tesco's need to insult the intelligence of their customers with their ****ty little signs though? Next they put by all the food "a great alternative to starving to death"?

Because their target audience is young boys? If a 6 year old sees a sign saying its a great toy for him he's going to want it more than if there is nothing there. It's not about insulting parents intelligence, it's about appealing to your target audience and getting their attention.

    This.

Why not just have an aisle labelled "toys" and leave it at that. No need to treat customers like idiots who need to be shown what toy is best for what gender (although it is Tesco so possibly warranted...)

I agree there's no point getting pissy about it, and certainly no need for all that social media bs. But the whole 'toys for boys' labelling is just needless marketing bs trying to convince boys to demand everything from the boys' area and likewise for girls. They don't label the cleaning products aisle 'products for women'.

Would you complain if you saw a sign that said that?

    I wouldn't complain, but I would think "**** off Tesco, I'm not a moron".

Tho' I have a general problem with the underhand marketing tactics used by supermarkets to try and prise more money out of you rather than just making shopping easy and convenient. This is just another example of that imo.

there is some stupid science behind it as well i think.

seen some of those progs on tele where they place certain things around the store, and its done in a clever way to get you to spend more than you want to.

home many seriously go to a store and just buy what they went for?

Yup chocolate bars and crisps next to tills is simple one

In one where I am used to queue up for self service next to dog food aisle, funnily enough it isn't an impulse buy item. Recently changed it all round and amount of people see stood there and just grab a choc bar while waiting!

One hand have to say it's clever by the stores to generate better sales

Not really all that clever, just basic psychology.

Always find it odd how if a financial investment salesman used those tactics to convince someone to invest then they would probably be investigated and jailed, but if a supermarket uses them to sell harmful food to millions, or use children to try and force parents to buy ****, then no-one bats an eyelid.

this black friday ****e that has started appearing is a joke, deaths have been caused over this ****e as people are so desperate to get what they think is great deals, and the sad thing is you prob get better deals at other times of the year, but this is a marketing scam of the highest order.

If a financial investment sales man puts a business card or brochure next to the tills at the supermarket with a sign saying "A great life insurance policy for boys", he should be jailed? :emoticon-0105-wink:
Seriously though, they are preying on human weakness, and I am immune, as I have no weakness:

Several studies have shown that toy preference is biological as well as sociological - that is boys and girls are born with innate preferences. Studies with children were replicated with monkeys - giving them a choice of what we call 'boy' and 'girl' toys, invariably female monkeys chose dolls and males chose cars

Girls also from a young age are attracted to reddish/pinkish colours more than boys. As stated above if the sign said girls can't buy these, there may be a point to answer, other than that, in reality when we're not all pretending that all toys are bought equally by girls and boys, most girls want dolls and fluff and boys want things that they can bash around.

How is this an issue? Seriously.

Halfords have bikes for boys and girls. Is this a problem for some?

You have boys and girls clothes. They are labelled as such. Are the uk clothes retailers insulting parents by tellimg them a dress is for a girl?

What about toys for kids and adults. Anyone insulted that places tend to indicate which is which?
