Sorry, not Barcelona. If i'm not mistaken they were also the first football club to wear this colour. There is also an Italian connection - think of a kind of biscuit <laugh>

I know that Nottingham Forest were originally formed as a football and bandy ( an alternative name for shinty ) club. I'm unaware of the slaughter house connection but assume that's why the shirt is red and the Italian connection must be due to Garibaldi.

All yours Nines. Nottingham Forest based their strip on Garibaldi's Redshirts (Garibaldi was very highly seen in Britain at that time - 1860s). The Redshirts had first fought together in South America (Uruguayan independence) and their shirts had been factory produced in Montevideo for use in Buenos Aires slaughterhouses - I presume that their finances allowed for nothing better. Forest adopted their strip (including the cap) and were the first club to officially play in red. The reason that Arsenal play in red is because their original strip was donated to them by Forest. Over to you.

Very interesting Koln, I must have a read up about this when I return from today's match.

In the song lyrics 'Up the junction' released in 1979 by Squeeze, what time was the baby born?
