From what you implied Stan...I would guess that the reason might be Chinese medicine etc...so Rhino horn, tiger and lion balls etc....
I know sub-species of both Rhino (black?) and tigers and lions () have become extinct..am I on right tract.

Bears might come under this umbrella too

Right country Beth, wrong reason, and it was an indigenous species......there are still, apparently, quite a few of these animals around, but none in the wild.
 
Our chums at wiki would appear to believe that this is Père David's deer.

Congratulations Roller and Wiki, correct. The Chinese also thought eating this creature would lead to immortality, so not much surprise they died out.

Bloody hell, it's not as easy when you're at work... Ok, work themed question then: the IBU is a measure of how hoppy a beer is. Beers have been made that have ibu's in the thousands, but what is the hoppiest IBU that the human palette can taste?

Sorry, it's badly worded, but I've got a few ibu's to kick out here!!

Well done Cologne, you interloper! The highest ever brewed was actually 2,500 IBU's - pointless, and it probably tasted bloody horrible!
