Apologies as my response was a bit OTT but there are few better guys than big Phil. An outrageous talent. He actually tries shots in the heat of competition that others can only dream of. Unfortunately Westwood will probably never win a major. The word among professionals and top media pundits is that he just doesn't have the mental strength. I think we'd all love to see him win one. Poulter will win at least one however and soon.
No worries mate. Again though, I never mentioned his undoubted talent and having gone so close before it's good to see him win an Open. As you say, he's worked bloody hard on his links play and deserved it today. I just think he comes across boring in interviews but as has been mentioned, so do most of them.
urban myth re Faldo. He may be mean (I don"t know) but anyone caddying for him would have been taking 10 -20% of his winnings on top of retainer, depending on how much he wanted that particular caddy, so would not be 'broke'. Turning up with a ruined sho would likely have pissed him off as a sign of lack of professionalism, if indeed it ever happened. Totally agree with Nuts and Col on Mickleson, that round today was sensational and he's a real gent. Can't do anything about being an American, but personally I don"t have any problem with that.
I thought Brits and Yanks were allies. I actually like America and Americans. I like their can do attitude.
Mickleson deserved to win.....to pick up a couple of shots on those closing 6 holes would be considered good but to birdie 4 of them....well that is some quality...... Good to see someone who has been coming here for 20 years finally win and for him to learn how to play links golf, something that is totally alien to most Americans, true class.....
I agree with you Tramore. I think Mickelson is a great player and truly deserved the win. I would like to see Westwood and Poulter win a major soon. Both of them deserve one.
Yes, must agree ................ as the others here have mention, there is no better example of a true gentleman / champion than Phil. He also knows how to 'turn it on' at a course. Could never accuse him of not having a go and being conservative.
Yes, I must agree with your conclusion. My son-in-law is PGA and has told me a few stories over the years. 10% is the normal rule of thumb.
