My mate is carrying the flame through Fareham. The torch is free, but they take out the gas bottle and a part of the burner so that it cannot be re-used. He has had offers of over £200 for his, but I am trying to get him to keep it for a while for a charity project that we are working on. He also gets the track suit that he wears.

He has at least 4 operations every year. He was nominated for his fund raising for a Diabetic childrens charity. So far he has parachuted, canoed and climbed the mast of a tall ship to raise the money.

The big thing for me is just how much respect this flame carrying thing gets, everyone really goes out of their way to say well done. I make light of it but I am really pleased for him. If at the end he can sell his torch, guess where the money will go?

Ah seems one was sold for a LOT of money, way more than 200 quid btw...think like 20k...cash was used to support a charity that helps stop kids committing suicide too, so fair play to both the seller and the buyer.
