RIP Spirit Spirit, aka Duncan Busto, passed away on Sunday following a cardiac arrest on August 13. Busto was a key figure in the momentum and progression of drum 'n' bass for many years, with timeless dancefloor fillers being churned out for decades. He started out working in Ipswich's Redeye Records in '92 and was producing full time by '96, with releases such as 'Mendacity'/'Delusions' on Timeless Recordings and 'Open Spaces'/'Science Fusions' on CIA Records. please log in to view this image https://mixmag.net/read/drum-n-bass-producer-spirit-has-died-news Sad news, did you know him SD being he was from Ipswich?
Top top tune from back in the day Only just found out this sad news. Thanks Duncan for the top beats and fond memories your music has added to the soundtrack of my life RIP Spirit
Well ****, that sucks mate. Yeah, I knew Duncan. Redeye was my store and almost all of my vinyl was bought there. Can't remember when I started buying records, late '92/early '93. Duncan got to know my style pretty well and knew exactly what tracks to bring to my attention when I would go in on a Saturday. He would be in the shop spinning and I'd spend an hour or more in there listening to the new stuff. He got me a fair few nice white labels too! RIP mate
Cheers SD, I thought you most likely would have known Duncan being he worked there from 92 onward and this would have been the era you were DJ'ing/ buying the brand new crisp biscuits mate. Mendacity is a personal fave of mine from back in the day. I was having a random catch up on youtube yesterday and only just found out myself. I know you have mentioned Redeye Records on here before. What you just posted brought back memories of what I used to do on many a Saturday in Reading at the Record Basement, home of Basement Records. Like you I would often spend a couple of hours just hanging to listen to the latest's releases It only seems like yesterday mate, and wow how time just fly's by eh
