Love LOTR, tempted to read it again. Films are amazing. Hobbit is a good book, really looking forward to film.

    That is good news <ok>

I haven't seen the trailer yet (planning not to watch it) and haven't looked into the casting so don't know. Think i'll do a bit of research and find out.

Like you say it would be worrying if they did that. Dwarves should be hard as nails and rugged. If it turns out to be a bunch of pretty boys with goatees there will a riot at the Tolkien fanclub!

Any of you saddos play LotRo by any chance? I mean I know it's going a long way from Tolkien's original vision but it's the only MPORPG with that background

Dont have the soundtrack on me at the moment so cant give you a track number. Its the soundtrack to when the Nazgul are chasing Arowyn (liv tyler) on horses. As they face off across the river in the film the music fades away but in the soundtrack it continues into a climatic brass piece. Its the climatic bit that i feel would be perfect as they announce their arrival and challenge Morgoth to meet them

That scene is ace - even if Arwen's role wasn't original... it's one of those changes that makes me think he might pull it off with the hobbit.

Yes I was joking about Gimli :)

Read the Hobbit a few years ago and making my way through the Lotr now.

Personally, I kind of like it when movies are slightly different to the books. After all, you do know about everything that's gonna happen so it's nice to spice things up a bit. It's also worth knowing that whenever you read a book, you create your own personal interpretation of it that seems perfect to you so a movie based on someone else's interpretation would obviously cause confusion.

As for the Hobbit movie, I'm certainly looking forward to it and will be open to any new interpretation of the book.

And as for the dwarves, they do seem to be a tad weird for me. Considering some of them seem to have OTT facial features and make-up whilst the likes of Thorin seems to be more of a Viggo Mortensen type...only smaller.

Isn't Legolas actually in the book, either when the company pass through Rivendell or when they get captured by the wood-elves? Meh, might just be my memory playing tricks on me. Thranduil, his father, is in the book though so they'll work him into it that way somehow.

    You! ;)

Was an excellent scene. The high shot of the one white horse running with the black riders closing in from all around is visually stunning, arguably the best in the series.

Would have still worked with Glorfindel though I reckon <whistle>

I don't recall him actually appearing in the book (don't know the Hobbit so well ... probably only read it a dozen times <whistle>) but he would have been around so I have no problem with him appearing. I just hope they don't beef up his role by having him accompany them on the onward journey or anything.

Give him a juicy role in the Battle of Five Armies by all means but leave him out of the Smaug adventure completely!

No I don't think Legolas is - it's his father's (Thranduil (sp?)) court in Mirkwood so I suppose he was around somewhere

Lotro is a great game if you like MMORPGs and Tolkein BUT it's a WoW type of Tolkien only not so extreme. I've been playing it solid for 4 years now so I guess I'm biased. Graphics are truly spectacular though and to be able to wander around the Shire was worth my subscription. Current 'end game' is in Isengard with Rohan coming next year.

They offer free trials so I would recommend you give it a go.. I'm on the server Snowborne so if you try it PM me and I'll let you know may avatars.

I wonder how they'll cover talking Wargs? Either that or they'll just portray them simply as big wolves like in the other movies.

The Mirkwood scene could be quite boring, after all it is absolute pitch black.

That is my challenge to Jackson, make the Mirkwood scene work in pitch black and minimal visuals. Get away from your special effects and see if you can make a scene very dependent on the audio side of things, and dialogue, work.

Now that I think about it, they're going to have to cover talking trolls as well...

On the subject, I used to love this game.

CGI I guess. Same as they will have to do with Beorn when he takes Bear form and the Giant Eagles.
