Yeah you can still enjoy it, iron man gets the most screen time anyway I'd say. It's a mass market film, meant to make money off kids, so it should be easy to follow.

On a side note, Thor is an awesome film, didn't think I'd enjoy it as much as I did.

Its not a bad film but ive Had enough of these marvel films now there just packed full of cheesy one liners. Captain America was a truly awful film. They need too go the same route as batman and go a lot darker. Can't wait for Prometheus this summer too !!

I loved the Batman films, but I disagree with you about the marvel films. They are comic book films at the end of the day, comic book heroes love their cheesy one liners!!

How can we have a thread about The Avengers Assemble, without likening it to our squad!! Demi-god: Thor/Tiote, Show off: Iron Man/Ben Arfa, No hope to super hero: Perch, crackshot: Hawkeye/Cisse.......anyone wish to carry on?

Is Prometheus like the prequel to the Alien movies?

Saw this last night, fantastic movie, probably the best superhero movie I've ever seen.

I wouldnt say you NEED to have seen the others, its pretty simple to follow.

    Hulk steals the show though.

Yes, director Ridley Scott says it is nothing to do with the Alien films just set in the same universe, watching the trailers I'd say he's full of ****. It looks mint though.

sadly, I suspect it's going to be pants.

The "David 8" viral is fantastic, but the Weyland TED talk is cringe-inducing cheese, and the main trailers make it look like a Michael Bay movie...

Ridley Scott is responsible for one of the best, most important & influential films ever made - Blade Runner.
...but he hasn't made a movie that came anywhere near Alien or Blade Runner ever since.

    2010 Robin Hood - ****e
2008 Body of Lies - watchable, but only the once.
2007 American Gangster - watchable, but deeply flawed.
2006 A Good Year - cringeworthy sentimental schmaltz
2005 Kingdom of Heaven - dreadful, dull
2003 Matchstick Men - had it's moments, but not great overall
2001 Black Hawk Down - AMERICA, **** YEAH! felt like a Tony Scott movie actually...
2001 Hannibal - a shameful and unnecessary sequel to a brilliant movie (Silence of the Lambs)
2000 Gladiator - one of the most overrated films ever, alongside Cameron's populous ****e like Titanic
    1997 G.I. Jane - awful, awful, awful
1996 White Squall - have to admit i haven't seen this
    1992 1492: Conquest of Paradise - lame
1991 Thelma & Louise - the ultimate faux-rebel chick flick.
1989 Black Rain - dated pretty badly
1987 Someone to Watch Over Me - haven't seen this either
    1985 Legend - lol, embarrassing.

Gladiator is overated in the same way that Braveheart is, both work well in their own right, but people who wouldn't have a great variety in the movie watching state that its the greatest film ever which inevitably pisses people off...Don't think they're **** though, just over-Hollywooded!

Having said that, I don't know how high you'd value my oppinion because as much as Blade Runner was way ahead of its time, I personally don't like it...Alien is epic though - just like Jaws, the dated special effects don't detract from it at all!

    Jaws is fantasic yep.

Shame you don't rate Blade Runner. It's just fantastic in every way - story, metaphor, acting, dialogue, characters, sound, set design, cinematography, pacing... (The final directors cut obviously)

it always seems to me that the kind of people who like movies such as Braveheart, Gladiator, Titanic etc. would be the same kind of people who say The Shawshank Redemption is the best movie ever!!!! (instead of recognising it as sacharrine sentimental schmaltz)

it's important to remember that popular and best are not synonomous.

Films are much like music for me, its an individual thing. What rates a great film to some, is utter dross to others. I have a mate who watches stuff I see as utter ****e. No thought in them just all out action. I don't mind the odd switch your brain off when done well but over and over would be just mind numbing. The debate on what is the best is therefore endless.

Weirdly don't agree. I'm not saying it was a bad film, but I watched it a few years ago, with my dad telling me I'd have nightmares when I went to bed! Didn't find it scary or particularly amazing.

lol, if you think talking about Blade Runner and slagging off mainstream blockbusters is pretentious, you've never encountered anyone who's really into film
