South for me all day long. Only thing that interests me over that side is the SOL. I live in thorney and have lovely council neighbours who don't work and always take drugs ohhh hang on a sec
Think it's a pretty safe bet that we both were. Back to the OP - Was brought up on the south side, but when I moved back after living away ended up living in Roker Absolutely love it - SOL, park, beach, pubs restaurants Wouldn't want to move away even if it's not the best part of the city to live in when I have to get to work in Darlo
Seaburn and Fullwell are decent enough, but on the whole, the south of the river is far better than the north..Ryhope, Silksworth, Happ Farm, Moorside, The Herringtons..Need I go on..Far, far better than your Redhouse, Witherwack, Southwick etc...South side rules OK..
Cambridge used to be a canny pub before it got took over, last time I was in I have seen more life in a tramps vest.......
Roker is an absolute bastard to get anywhere from, that's true. Into the city is a pain in the arse cos of the bridge, out of the city to A1 or A19 is a trek through half the town, it's a right bastard. Still love the whole area like, but that is a massive pain in the arse with it. Even the wonderland that is Seaburn & Fullwell, getting to an A-road is a bastard.
You can't pull out the good from the South & the worst of the North. Are you a politician man, more spin than a washing machine!
Well I had noticed that posters mentioning the north side only seemed to be putting down Roker, Fullwell and Seaburn..So being selective seems to have been the order of the day..
Well mate, as you know all to well, i know my background, aye it was alreet, but on the North side there was Dame Dorithy and Baclay court (took me ages to remeber that one)
The bottom line is that which ever side you live on, or you were born and bred on, is going to be the choice you will probably pick...I love living where I do, but I also adore visiting the beaches at Roker and Seaburn, and can often be seen haunting the Cat and Dog Steps where I often meet my brother for a coffee next to the little hut cafe on the beach-side promenade..
Can anyone remember the name of the pub round the corner from the old swimming pool opposite the londonderry? Used to go in there saturday afternoon's before the match for the live music. A real dive but great memories! Cant ever remember any trouble kicking off was probably shed loads! The Old something or other?
Cheers Cest, Comm. Great memories! Every band was awesome! At least, through my rose tinted glasses! Thats the Black Bull in the background. First time I ever saw a guy get glassed in the face, right next to me. Was only 15. Scared the **** out of me!!!
