Just looked up how many members there are in congress... There are 535 members who can vote, only 166 of which have a stance on that picture

The timing clearly has a lot to do with the whole issue though. Right smack bang in the middle of this huge furor, about a bill regarding websites being pulled for piracy, one of the biggest filesharing websites gets pulled for piracy. Such hilarious timing surely suggests that a point was being made about the power the government has even without SOPA.

Most likely, I guess when it rises again on a foreign server, or other overseas competition step into the breach it would make the proposed bills look more necessary to the idiots involved.

Interestingly, I read that Kim Dotcom actually got in touch with Paypal and recommended that they sever affiliation with several other filehosting sites which pay rewards to content uploaders (Wupload was one, can't remember the others). As far as I'm aware, that's totally illegal so it should be even more interesting to see what happens in the coming few days.

Was this a forceful 'recommendation', or a genuine recommendation?

Regarding Paypal, and other monetary transaction methods, blocking, I'd be more interested in seeing the US Government called out for what it has been illegally doing to Wikileaks for over a year now.

Also, I'm seeing news that SOPA and PIPA have been dropped again, will try to find a decent link.

Allegedly this is it here, it's done the rounds on a few places but I've yet to see it on a news site or similar:

    Totally agree.

Good news albeit unsurprising really. When you have a supposed racist Mormon republican presidential candidate opposing it on 'freedom' grounds, you know it doesn't stand much chance of passing.

We've won the battle but I'm afraid that the war is far from over.

It's likely that they'll try and pass another act that is more sugar coated than it's predecessors, hopefully the internet community has learned a valuable lesson and will be able to continue to protect our rights as internet users.
