Hormone medication is widely used to stop the growth and spread of plus kill Cancer cells by reducing the amount of the male hormone Testosterone in the body. This is done by gradual replacement with the female homone Oestrogen over a period prior to Radiotherapy. The effect of this hormone balance change varies from person to person but a common side effect is mood swings varying in intensity.

There are numerous other possible side effects which should have been explained to your father by his specialist prior to the commencement of the treatment.

When my dad was having the treatment he suffered fatigue, hot flushes, muscle loss and mood swings.

The side effects stated by others are exact,
you have to tell your dad there is no escape but of all the people I met over the last months they all said they are not as bad as one would think. When he goes for his radio therapy he is in for a pleasant surprise in that its a comfortable area, the staff keep you well informed of whats going on, they really look after everyone, they are really caring. Tell him also that he has got over the worst of his problem firstly going to doctors then having completed all the tests and examinations, there are no more worrying experiences, he will know what I mean. The treatment is a doddle, side effects are still going on for me but I have learnt to cope. The bad thing about going for treatment is the parking, If he is going by car he needs to be accompanied by another driver because he won't get parked straight away and its best to go early for his appointment.The oncology car park is free thats why its always full but spaces clear quite quickly. In the 8 weeks I went I was only delayed twice and that was due to machine break down.
