Sky the greedy b*****ds just got a letter saying my subscription is going up £3.50 a month seriously considering getting rid now - anyone else got the increase letter?

We've just done the old, gonna go to bt thing and got £50 per month knocked off for 12 months, just do that mate, say your thinking of cancelling as its too expensive and they chuck retention **** at you

Steamer, it doesn't matter which company you go with, they are all putting prices up from time to time.
Just changed ours. Rang them up and said we were thinking of jacking in cos we were paying a fortune and all the adverts for new customers were giving them great deals that we could'nt have. The lass on the line then changed ours so we are now paying half price for a year,then going onto a new price,which will still be cheaper than what we were paying. Got my letter last week and immediately called and told them to **** off, I can always stream Sunderland games and I get bt for free, first time I've been without sky sports for 12 years.

I get the full package but I can watch sports for nowt, watch films 4 weeks after cinema release (for a decent copy) download as much music as I want, and all for free, but I still pay for the stupid thing.
Very tempted to go down to min package but keep the 20 meg fiber and just pirate everything.

Mine is £98.50 a month and i hardly ever watch the ****er and when I do theres nout on. I say every week im going to cancel it. It's run its course for me now like im cancelling it soon as i get back off holiday especially if theres a price increase letter waiting for me.

I've never had Sky, more out of principal than money as I loathe that twat Murdoch.
I look at the channels in the telly book & think, well what a ****ing pile of ****e.
If I want to watch sport or a telly series I just watch them online.
Costs me **** all.
If you do want to keep Sky, just phone up and cancel. You'll always get an offer from them, however you need to go through with your cancellation and be prepared to go without Sky for a few days, or weeks.

Last deal I got was August 2013 when they gave me everything but the movies free for 6 months. I took the sports from Feb 'till the end of the season and then cancelled back to basic. Also cancelled the HD after 1 year so paying £17 for entertainment pack. Don't think they can switch off the HD element though so still getting that, just not paying for it. Been a customer since the 80s, when the analogue system was in place so don't know if the "valued customer" thing is relevant. As has been said before you have to play hard ball or they'll just take advantage.
Slightly different to the topic but still sky related - 3 games changed including the first home game to Man Utd - 4pm on the Sunday now.
This annoys the **** out of me when games kick off later on a weekend (the 5:30 saturday game is a joke) - I sing every Saturday without fail and the 5:30 kick off make it nigh on impossible to get there in time to set up unless nit's a late start!
On the original topic - I'm moving house soon so am ringing sky to close my account. The wife is going to start up a new account where she will get all the "new subscriber" discounts which are much better than existing subscriber ones!
Also, my mate rang up about a "new customer" offer, even though he was an existing customer and he used the exact term "Why can;t I have the discount, is it because of the colour of my skin?" (he's white) - they gave him every offer going - not sure if that still works as it was a few years ago - may be worth a try though!!

Why do Sky keep changing the goal posts?
I mean if you subscribe to the full sports package surely you should be able to watch any event they televise?
And then what do they do? Put the big name boxing cards on box office, so you have to pay again.
Last time I checked boxing was still listed as a sport.
