Maybe the guard and the big guy could have handled the young lad better but in on honesty I am peed of with ignorant, bad mannered people, so I can understand the big guy losing it a bit.

I'm more pissed off at people saying 'Aye the countries gone to the dogs','The youth of today are a bunch of cowards' than anything else tbh <doh> Complete unsubstantiated bull**** from geriatric conservative (small c) twats who are still stuck in the 70's and act like they won WW2 etc.

Peoples manners and general behavior are no worse than at any time previously and to be honest i'd rather have a cheeky prick mouthing of on a train than a bunch of football hooligans, or racists like how it used to be in the 'good old days'.

What bullshit. The fact people might have a few years on you actually means they have the ability to compare. <duh> There's plenty that's better nowadays and there are certain things that are worse, and one of those is general day-to-day levels of politeness.

I pretty much agree with you (so many points there might be a shaky one somewhere!) and fully agree with what you did regards the old lady egg incident, but I just don't see this as the same thing. Its an issue with a train ticket, thats not opting out of any rights not to get manhandled by some random and thrown off a train. If the conductor had done it himself then the company will act based on their own procedures (I still really doubt it involves stopping the train) and if he has acted against them he'll be disciplined and asked why he didn't follow the rules of his job. The lad isn't shouting, he isn't getting violent, he might swear but how often have you been on a night train without someone swearing? You don't get thrown off for that.

The number of times train tickets are useless, or not valid for a particular train, or any number of ludicrous issues since privatisation (train ticket purchasing and pricing is ****ing stupid, end of) is frankly stupid. I travel with work and have had to buy a second set of tickets on the train far too many times due to delays etc, if I was thrown off in Peterborough or somewhere I wouldn't be best pleased, and if I was pissed in the middle of the night I can't say I wouldn't have refused to get off myself, I'll sort the fare when I'm back up North.

Also, the fact that an additional, dedicated police team is required to deal with this tells you everyhting you need to know about that particular philospophy.

What happens if they get involved? Does the train have to wait for them to arrive? You'll have to enlighten me I'm affraid, no trains or extra police for them here.

It's not even the media. Everyone bitches about change and how things used to be better, it takes the piss if the world was full of people like them we would still be living in caves. <ok> It's like my Grandma, not a Conservative (as in with the party) in anyway shape or form. But goes on and on about how new buildings have ruined the view to the Cathedral in Durham, or how new businesses have taken over from old ones . <doh> It's called progress.

Because something is new doesn't automatically mean it represents progress. <doh>

I've written my response to this 5 times now and started again. I'm sure I'm wasting my time though so I will simply say: Are you happy with the way things are now? Do you see society changing?(for the worse) And finally do you or do you not want a strong community spirit and a decent law abiding population?

^^ if the answer to any of those is yes, then you need to think long and hard about the propaganda that's washed through your mind. Look at the facts. No I'm not going to give you them, go research.

I'm not comparing things to the past, I'm looking at the changes happening now! As for geriatric, I'm 24 dude. lol

Seriously, the Conservative people you are annoyed with are no worse than what you have just displayed, only for the opposite side. You'll find Labour spilling the same attacks you just did. They're never on the problem or the cause, they're always comments on the people who are trying to say/do something about it the problems. This isn't about image or keeping up with the times, this is about real life problems that need addressing, yet your mentallity is to attack the "gray" image of the person trying, rather than giving input.

How would you adress the problem, or are you truly blind to it?

Is it not possible to take the good progress and prevent the bad? You're looking at ALL changes as one big progression, well it doesn't work like that. Lots of things change all the time and as a part of the community we have a responsability to encourage good change and discourage the bad.

If progress is kids running round with knives stabbing each other then you can keep it. If progress is equality for men and women in the work place then I'm all in.

Are you sure it's them being lead by the media? Or are you, like most of the country did, still falling for Labours spin <rhetorical>

Small c conservative. <ok> Wasn't talking about the party in fact id probably fit in with the Conservatives fairly well. Don't even try and suggest that I would have anything to do with Labour <laugh> I'm not trying to say society is perfect (it clearly isn't) but do you not find it annoying, as a young person too that our generation is constantly put down in a way like no other generation has because 'we have it so easy', and that we are all pretty thuggish drinkers who have 5 children by the time they are 16. Some of the views older generations have of young people today are ridiculous, this isn't coming from the media this is coming from listening to people among my own family etc!

As for solving the problem I am not bothered. It is unsolvable as people will always find something to attack and there will always be rude people. I will just continue as I am and try to be the best individual possible, that includes abiding by the law and being polite as I can.

**** off trying to say i'm involved with them <laugh>

I'm not saying all change is good, it just grinds on me that plenty of people are unwilling to accept it in any form.

The enormity of population increase is inevitably creating a society in which there is less personal assistance and care, less community spirit and an every man for himself semi-schizoid society filled with people looking inward only, seeing how they can go about improving their own life and taking all that they can. The sort of vigilantism displayed in this story is tied in, as much as you may wish it is actually done out of some sort of community spirit, it's all self serving and a by product of the society we live in, not some sort of last gasp attempt of the glorious olden times to cling onto common sense or sanity.
This particular story in question has a guy who is pissed off that his train is being delayed so takes matters into his own hands so he can help himself out, this is a big difference from say, somebody teaching a kid a lesson for assaulting a pensioner.

A million times this. A lot of people are seeing the applause as justification, rather than the 'yay, the train will move now' that it actually was.
