I was just watching a programme presented by Morgan Freeman some scientist has done a load of research in various countries and found that we are slowly moving away from religion and within so many years people with religious beliefs will be in the minority.

That day cannot come soon enough, maybe we can finally begin to grow up as a species and instead of waving a book and using it as a reason to kill each other we can sit down and sort it out.

If we can't do that we deserve to be wiped out as a species so something else gets a chance.

I didn't expect to be discussing the finer points of the issues of the world on a Norwich Forum but I'm glad I can. I've been thinking about it a lot lately.

If only those in the middle east, or the bible belt in america could see how futile it is to keep preaching hate and death over something a bunch of guys wrote 2000 years ago! Think how much better a world this would be without religion, how much more we could advance, how much more good we could do as a species!

Amen to that, if you'll forgive the pun.

The thing is you can have a belief in there being more to life than death without invoking a deity.

I firmly believe there's more to us than just biology, our world is just so amazing let alone the things were discovering about the universe for us to be here for just a blink of an eye and we're gone.

I don't believe in heaven, hell etc but I do believe there's more.

I remember reading in New Scientist a few years ago a story called

You are a Hologram projected from the edge of the universe. This blew my mind, amazing ideas

Kind of

Highly recommend a new scientist subscription I had it when I was studying Chemistry, physics and biology at A level. Very good read without blowing your mind. I think larger Smiths stores stock it too.

Also Fortean Times often has stories of a similar ilk

Any subscription to a printed copy gives unlimited online access, so not sure why anyone would pay fifty notes for 30 days seems silly. I'm tempted to get a sub again actually my boys like a discussion about things like that instead of a bedtime story some nights.

My eldest 8 asked me what the multiverse was the other day, just about managed to field that one lol

I can't quote any specific stat, but I'm pretty sure I've heard a number of people saying that support for Christianity and those declaring themselves as practising Christians is at a decade high due to the credit crunch and the rise of new age evangelism.

Sounds mad, perhaps, but then I don't really see what else people who have really struggled recently would turn to. I count myself lucky not to need religion, tbh.

It makes me very proud to know such a national treasure comes from Norfolk. His folks shop where I work sometimes, I've always hoped he'd tag along!

We went from Supers having a close encounter with an abused dog in an alleyway to Syria and Palestine, then Eugenics and the ultimate Is there a GOD?.....

At least nobody has mentioned Eva Braun's old man yet so we're still good to go <ok>

Late to the party. Spent a lot of time around rescues and pounds in the last five months and found it changed my stance slightly. What I can appreciate is that often these smaller rescues can make a difference to their cause with donations. Not globally or nationally, but in their own back yard - which is a lot more than I can do with any of the causes to which I have given money to over the years. That said, giving money to that probably doesn't address or fix the problem, just attempts to plaster over it and increases the issue of slack pet ownership.

Can't understand why they gave up on licenses. Lovely source of income for government and might stop people who are unfit to look after themselves, from attempting to own a dog. Huge fines and bans for bad owners.

If you find yourself with nowt to do on Monday evening, doc I worked on - C5, 9pm, Dangerous Dog Owners and Proud. Should raise your collective blood pressures.
