The first boozer I ever went into as a spotty underage sixteen year old was The Saltshouse. I have very fond memories of the place ,I was a regular in there in the early nineties.
All this talk about the Duke at Ferriby and for some reason like a set of ragheads heading to Macca, I am unconsciously drawn to playing Be Bop Deluxe
The Beech Tree, Kirk Ella (because I work there) Dog and Duck in Walkington Swan and Cygnet in Swanland (Recently changed hands and the food is absolutely superb!)
I always eat at The Punch across from the city hall, mostly because when I go to Hull I stay in town centre but I think the pub food in there is very good and they do a nice giant yorkshire pudding with your meat and veg inside. I really enjoyed their sunday lunch too might not be top notch like out in the country but not bad at all if you are based in Hull
Don't know if somebody has mentioned it yet, but the Star Inn in Willerby does fantastic food, or at least did when I was there.
I've tried the Dog and Duck since it was done up and it was pretty good, I haven't been in the Swan recently, so I'll give that one a go, has the Beech Tree been done up as well, I seem to remember it was closed for a while?
Does the Hotham Arms do lunch time food? I might give it a try today, only problem is I don't know how to get to it and my sat nav is on the blink. I'm in South Cave in about an hour and I don't think it's far from there. Anyone able to help me out with directions?
Or if you're in South Cave there's always the new Boars Nest, it's not as good as the old one, but it's not bad(it's at Rudtone Walk Farm on the South Cave to Market Weighton road). Edit - Scrub that, go past Rudston Walk to Sancton, The Star is by far the best place to eat round here.
The Star is top of my list of places to eat. I might be rushing a bit due to the gaffer making other plans so will probably leave it for another time. I'm stuck in church at a Christingle at the moment. Brilliant.
Drewton does pretty decent lunches too, better when the weather is nice and you can utilise the outside seating area. Apparently Drewton is owned and operated by Taylors of Harrogate!
To be fair I don't even know what a Christingle is, but had (seemingly wrongly) thought it was a typo??
I don't rate the restaurant at Drewton's at all, the foods ordinary and if you get sat in the front bit, it's like eating in a supermarket. It's owned by Katy Taylor and she did come from Harrogate, but she isn't anything to do with Taylors of Harrogate.
No typo pal. It's a school Christmas service where they symbolise the world with an orange?????? Confused,? You would be if you was sat where I am.
