The Gnu did used to be good, great place for a lock in too, but it hasn't been the same since the mad Irishman left years ago.

Last time I was in there was probably five years ago.
Someone told me it changed hands a couple of years ago so it might be worth another go.

His wife passed away with cancer and they now live in Scarborough, was absolutely beautiful before then.

Triton has gone down, the Fox and Coney the same...... Really need one in and around the Swanland area.... the Duke in Ferriby has always being poor to me.

The Duke certainly wouldn't get a mention if we're talking proper decent grub but it's a lot better than it used to be.

I remember my mate Bob ordering a lite bite in there a couple of years ago and kicking off when he got two bits of scampi , half a dozen chips and ten garden peas.

Have you been in since it was done out?

Yes, that used to be our haunt, sadly never found anywhere as good since.

The Bucaneer in Brough do good food, apparently. Not been myself.

Hope and Anchor is good, but you generally have to book, great walk down the Humber before or after to blow out the cob webs.

Triton has gone downhill, hence only an ok. Last time we went a couple of the meals were ****e.

The Rose and Crown in Gilberdyke used to be decent years ago, but now it's not much cop.

I used to go to the Rose and Crown occasionally, but the last time I went it was terrible.

I haven't been to The Bucaneer for years, but the last time I went it was terrible.

The Duke in Ferriby and the Swan in Swanland are both passable if you want something basic, but they're not great, the Dragon at Welton is probably the worst of the lot.

We havent been to Hotham for a couple of years used to go for all our birthdays. Joe the landlord is a brilliant host, welcoming, generous and funny. He also takes no crap. His foods all about what he knows is good and he'll always tell you what you should have.

Took my wife and a big gathering for her 40th, he brought out the fruit cider for the kids, hell I thought it was 4 maybe 5% bloody hell it was 14% my 8 year old son couldn't eat his main course!

Must make a trip out over the Christmas period, I'd recommend Joe's place to anyone.

The Rose and Crown was outstanding when run by a Scottish couple, sadly she was diagnosed with Cancer and they left so she could under go treatment. That was probably the best eatery locally in the last 10+ years.

Bricklayers (or could be Brickmakers) arms in Laxton is supposed to be superb for Thai food (Thai Chef) some one in South Cave drives to Laxton as they do 'take out' <laugh>

Pubs in North and South Cave are all a joke!

Joe's a mate of mine, I've known him since he had The Plough at Hayton and I live within walking distance of the Hotham Arms, so I'm in there quite regularly(it's also Ash's favourite eatery).

The Half Moon in Elloughton, how could I forget this little gem?

The decor is 1970's and it's full of old codgers but the three or four times I've been the food has been top drawer.

Haven't been for a while so hopefully it's still good.

The Ferguson and Fawcitts at Walkington has always been very good when I've gone. Toby Cavery at Willerby also very good.

Ship in Sutton has like Duke of York had a recent revamp but doesn't to my knowledge do food. Even with the revamp it is struggling to pull the punters in.

The cross keys in nafferton is amazing, great food & fairly cheap. The menu gets changed a lot too, well worth a visit. Love the place

Duke of York always been more refined than Ship but has lost a lot of regulars (me included) with previous incumbents managing the place being rubbish. Ashamed to say driven out to Saltshouse (too many eggchasers go in there but try to blank them out) by lack of atmosphere/numbers but hopefully that will return.
