I don't get why people make out that the past of Hull CC is relevant to what the new Greater Hull Council would be. These wards will be bringing a hell of a lot of new councillors to the City Hall. Most people would assume that we're at the high water mark for Labour support, given that we're four years into a LD-featuring coalition.

If the new wards voted exactly as they did now, that would bring

    Cons 15
    LD 3
    L 2
    Ind Cons 1
    Ind 1

So that would put the new council at

    Lab 42
    LD 20
    Cons 17
    Ind 2
    Ind Cons 1

So at the high point of Labour support, that's only five (maybe four if the independent Tory rejoins the group) from the council being in NOC. In that council, Labour would have to up their game, or they would lose the council - given that line up it could easily become a three-way marginal, it wouldn't take much for the Tories and Lib Dems to form a coalition to unseat Labour (or even as in the Carl Minns days, Labour and Tories to unseat the Lib Dems). Having that amount of competition in the council can only be a good thing for getting things done.

And really considering the Labour group has a reputation of being a group of dinosaurs happy with a job for life who'll never be voted out, you have to give the Council credit for even looking at trying to get the suburbs, as that is probably going to be the biggest threat to Labour's control of Hull in years.

    What relevance does that have?

Suddenly they owe something to Hull because they once lived in the crap parts of the city?

If voting yes doesn't have a positive impact on their lives which they have worked to achieve, what is there to convince them?

It's funny you two made that comparison. When OLM was telling Carmine not to worry because they were only going as far as Hessle the thought that sprang to mind was that Hitler said he'd stop at the Sudetenland.

In my day, Bransholme, Ings and OPE were all part of Hull and inside of the City boundary. Has something changed?

The people grew up there, moved to the East Riding, then became snobs.

I grew up on Bransholme and now live in the East Riding.

I'm definitely not a snob, I'll talk to any ****. Even if they look rough as arseholes, if you don't believe me ask OLM.

    On a separate note.

Normal service has been resumed with the militant bin men who empty my bins( when they can be arsed). I knew there could be trouble brewing when I saw a Mexican stand off between their bin wagon and a delivery van down New Walk this morning.
In the end the van driver went for it and ended up getting stuck.

I should have known that would be a pre cursor for some shenanigans from the demons in hi viz. They're like wasps, get them riled and they can 't help but be a pain in the arse.

To cut a long story short , I returned from the gym to find an act of outright bellendery had taken place.

'Didn't they empty your blue bin again Carmine?" I hear you all ask.

    Well yes they did.

They then, using my singular and next doors 2 blue bins( I'll have to find out why next door has 2 and I only have one. In fact No 2 has 3!!!!!! WTF is going on there?) to block my bastarding drive.

Lined up like little soldiers on parade they were. They've done it on purpose, of that I have no doubt.

I had to get out of my motor, move all three bins, climb back in and pull up on my drive.

No wonder I never give the **** bags a tip a Christmas.

Which, if I'm been honest is a ridiculous thing to do anyway.

That was a warning. 3 bins is code for "we're watching you". You need to tread carefully my friend. You think your missus will back you up? No, when your bins are full and she's got stuff she wants putting in them, you will be driving to the tip.

The lot round here are pretty good, they seem to use the whole thing as a method of keeping in shape by running round, and they seem quite chirpy too, all whistling and stuff. I think they're all ex Army tbh, well they do say that where ever the army goes, the pong goes.

    Oi daft lad.

You won't be saying that when I'm walking around getting mistaken for Steve Beaton.

That's my aim, it's a tall order but I'm on the mo fo.
