Seriously Flyer, I thought I was becoming a miserable git but you need to sort this negativity thing out!! I live in a country whose political system could never be replicated in the UK, primarily due to our media whores who need to portray everything as either Black or White. Because we have had proportional representation since almost the start it is common place for the best politicians of each party to work together. It is also quite often that concessions are made by the Major parties going against their maniesto (even when in power) without there being a hoorah of egg on face all over the media. As for my vote - Purely and simply for his most magnificent performance at the US Senate, it has to be Not so Gorgeous George - Who in their right mind thought it was a good idea to invite that lunatic to a Senate Grill and not expect some serious "Fat Splash"?
Bumping this in the light of the announcement re MPs salaries going up by 11%. I expect many will be outraged, but my personal opinion is that their salaries should be even higher, but only if they commit to the job 100% - i.e. no other jobs, directorships etc. Thoughts?
Turkeys don't vote for Christmas. MPs will always look after themselves as was proven when Public Sector pensions were all 'diluted' but they upped theirs by an obscene amount. Don't expect them to give up all their 'perks' on the side as they would never agree. They've been quietly increasing the number of holidays they have over the past few years and that will continue along with all their other piss-taking...
It's actually decided by an independent body (IPSA), so MPs are not voting themselves a rise. I don't think that £74k pa is excessive for what is a very important job. Deductions should be made for non-attendance though.
All politicians are corrupt, lying, thieving scumbags who only aspire to line their own pockets as quickly as they can before they get found out or are voted out. Many of them go into politics to try to change the system or to do some good, but within a short matter of time they too become as corrupt and this is all down to what they learn in office and they soon forget the reason they became a politician as they realise you cannot change the system, so why not benefit from the corruption as all their fellow scumbags do. " IT IS MY OPINION, THE ONLY GOOD POLITICIAN IS A DEAD POLITICIAN " If you want to find out how corrupt the system is watch a video on google, just type in "John Harris, It's an illusion" , believe me it opened my eyes to how corrupt the system actually is and how we have become a nation of sheep believing all the bulls**t we have been fed over the years, in the"IN" word of politics just lately, "IT'S ALL SMOKE AND MIRRORS"
, Steve Pound, seems a decent sort apart from being a Fulham fan! Even that is redeemed because his lad is a QPR ST holder!![/QUOTE] don't worry he will grow out of it, he is only 11
Again, none of them seeing as they voted in an 11% pay rise for themselves. "all in this together"? **** off. Self serving leeches.
The MPs have no say in this - it's (now) an independent awards panel. Many MPs on all sides of the house are saying how excessive it is. I think you're being a bit harsh Flyer, seeing as there's a few facts you have wrong mate...
The reason why they are saying its excessive, not because they think its bad but because they will have no hope in the next general election if they support this.
So who you voting for then? Or are you going to stay away? From what I can see, you despise all sides of the house equally, which gives you a fairly difficult decision to make....
Ive never ever voted as theres no good choice. They all do a bad job hence why theres hardly anyone who stays in for more than 2 terms, we just get fed up and vote for the other side every 4-8 years and then the cycle repeats. Politicians are in a group with the police, parking attendants, ambulance chasing lawyers and journalists that generally deserve no respect at all. Sometimes theres a rare beacon of light like the Guardian breaking the NSA spying news and a policeman who came up to us while having a pre match beer in the park and instead of taking the beer, asked us to move out of site so his superior couldnt see us from the road. But those are very rare cases.
My list includes George Galloway, Michael Foot and a German Green politician Hans-Christian Ströbele who had the courage to actually visit Edward Snowden privately in Moscow. I also rather respect Caroline Lucas for breaking ground in becoming the first Green party M.P. in Britain and also for giving up the party leadership to concentrate on representing her constituency.
Silvio Berlusconi? Who can forget him describing Angela Merkal as an "unf***able lard arse" What a guy.
