Went to Purple pig the other night. Was going to write a long winded review, but basically I'd say steer well clear for now. It might have potential but when it comes to these, food served on a metal tray burger type joints, it's a million miles behind Meatliquor in Leeds and not even up to Aunt Bibbys down prinny.

One place I've not seen mentioned is Yinjibar down Charles street. As good a chinese as you'll find anywhere.

would recommend most of them also ,

One of the best curry houses right now is Raj Puri on Spring Bank , dont let its location or low price deter you , ive eaten a lot of curry and locally its safely in the top 5 .

With nosh reviews are coming in , whats the food like in Roots on Newland Ave ?we keep threatening to try the food , ive tried a fair few cocktails late on - would never bring myself to part with the cash sober , thats for sure

What a charming racist comment, as someone born and raised on springbank I have seen it change many times over the last half century and have no problem with the changes now or the people who have moved into the area, nice to have a bit of different cultures.
Oh and it's nowhere near as rough as it was 40 years ago.

It may be deemed racist by how you read it, and yes it probably isn't PC but the intent wasn't, as should have been apparent by how I suggested it is an interesting walk to see how it is changed. If you feel that isn't acceptable, then that is your opinion. I care not.

I love different culture shopping and find people of whichever race are as friendly as you are to them in general. Although, a fair proportion of the Kurds who moved in around Mayfield Street where I lived weren't particularly interested in communicating with the existing locals 15 years ago, before I moved into my wife's house. They weren't any problem though, other than lurking on the corners looking grim, but then if you think about the situation from where they had come, it was probably understandable.

i lived on Spring bank in the early 90s , it was a **** hole then , hated evey bit of it (and im from Boulevard)
got burgled in 95 (defo during commonwelth games manchester as i was sat under our bust window with a claw hammer at night hoping somone would try again) , we found Almost all our stuff at a second hand shop on SB - the police said it would be best if we PAID for our stuff back .

in 1996 me dad dragged a kid ,legs first out of their sash window on Cranbourne , chased him down albany st and honest to god pinned him up against a police van outside tap n spile - the fanny in the van wasnt fuzz , just a driver , refused to help and the fudder ran off .

i dont have an ounce of sympathy for the scum and their problems

Often stop at the Holiday inn Express on Ferensway ourselves and always walk to Cinnamon , an Indian restaurant about a 5 minute walk from the hotel just around the corner on Anlaby Rd . The restaurant is opposite the train station car park. Always had a good meal and good reviews on Tripadvisor. Best of all not far to wander back to your room.Would thoroughly recommend it.

What ever happened to Burger King being on the bottom deck of Princess Quay? It was always rammed but closed down not long after the one opposite McDs closed (now cash converters).

    Did it?

I'm sure there was a longer gap between one closing and that one opening? I remember the nearest Burger King being Brid for well over a year?

On the matter of Princess Quay, the place is dead and a bit of an embarrassment for out of town shoppers really. Most shops are closing down in there compared to what there used to be. The rent needs to be lowered to encourage more store openings. There's basixally a tattoo shop, hair products and JD on the bottom floor and probably only another three shops on the City shop floor (third).

Well, I don't know if it was a straight move, but that is where it is now, so I'd consider it a move.

I only use Prinny Key for Vue now. Best cinema in Hull IMO.

Yeah the gap was 2 or 3 years I think.

I'm not sure why they both closed when they did, the one at PQ was always packed, it would have made sense for them both to be open at least for a while.

I worked at Princes Quay's student night the other night so went for the first time for ages - I hadn't realised how many shops had closed down. About 1/3 of the shops are gone, and the bit from the Whitefrairgate end to the main centre is virtually empty.

Is that the one in bransholme?

Crazy if so. A lidl with a public-use microwave would be considered fine dining around there...
